Sounds like it. I have rocd about my friends and my mind will nitpick things that really don’t even matter, telling me that we don’t have anything in common and we shouldn’t be friends. I try to be like “heh” and ignore it

Does your “heh” work? Did a therapist or someone tell you to try it out? @PalmTree

@Love Some ocd therapists on YouTube say to use phrases like, “Nice try!” and things like that to combat the thoughts. My therapist also told me to focus on the uncertainty of whether or not I should really stop being someone’s friend. So the “heh” is my way of acknowledging the thought is there and just letting it be until it goes away.

Possibly. I’m trying just medication for 3 weeks and then we’ll re-evaluate

Yes! Thanks so much for reaching out it really means a lot. I’ve had thoughts of breaking up with her, but then I just think about the reasons why and they seem so knit picky and I don’t know what’s real and what’s not it’s literally driving me crazy!

Urges to break up with someone are pretty common with rocd. Try to focus on the uncertainty of whether or not the horses are a big deal to you

@PalmTree Okay I gotcha. So how do you know if you really want to break up with someone or not? Like know what’s real and what’s your ROCD?

@Love A lot of times with my OCD I wish a knew what’s real and what’s not. But my therapist always says to go for the uncertainty that it may be a real thought about something you want to do or it may not. With OCD you can never find the certainty of “this is 100% what I truly feel,” so beat it at its own game by aligning yourself more with the idea of “I don’t know, moving on.”

@PalmTree Okay, that makes sense. Are you doing the therapy through the app?

@PalmTree How do you like it? I personally think I may like in person therapy more but I’ll find out more after I visit my regular doctor on Wednesday what I’ll be doing

@Love I like it a lot! It’s nice doing teletherapy at home and in some ways feels less intimidating than in-person. But I suppose it all depends on personal preference. I recommend getting an OCD specialist though since sometimes regular therapists don’t understand OCD thinking.

@PalmTree I gotcha! I agree, my parents (I’m 22) don’t quite understand it but I don’t expect them too haha. Did you ever meet with a Normal doctor first to discuss your ocd when it first began?

I didn’t because for so long I didn’t even think that I could have OCD bc my symptoms didn’t match the stereotypes on TV. But I think it might be helpful to talk to your normal doctor, especially if you’re thinking about getting medication since NOCD therapists can’t prescribe that for you. Medication only helps some people with OCD though so I haven’t tried it yet.

Okay I gotcha, yeah I didn’t know I had it till like a year after my thoughts started lol. I’d prefer to not try medication and do it through therapy. It seems like a deeper growth than medication

@Love Yeah, they say that erp therapy is the “gold standard” for OCD therapy because it gives you the skills to deal with the thoughts. Medication, from what I know, may make the thoughts go away, but they’ll come back if you stop the medication.

@PalmTree Exactly, we’ll see how it goes! I just hope my doctor understands it and doesn’t misdiagnose me

@Love So he diagnosed me with depression and a little bit of OCD. He prescribed some medication because since there’s been no real trauma or anything going on in my life he thinks it’s mainly biochemical.
