Oh yes, the awareness could be a little too much sometimes.

Meditation, mindfulness particularly, is just about observing whatever it is that arises in consciousness without judgment . It also usually involves focusing attention on an “anchor” like the breath. Sometimes that might mean intrusive thoughts appear, but in meditation you’re just practicing being with them. It should also be noted that meditation has nothing to do with religious doctrines or demonic possession.

I know what meditation is. I’ve done a variety of different practices, but meditation is linked to eastern religions. Spirituality involves exactly what the word contains; involvement with spirits. With that said, there has been plenty of research, regardless if you believe it or not, to back up that elevated mental states of consciousness does make you susceptible to negative encounters, spiritually. Meditation is not for everyone. There’s plenty of studies that show that mediation does the complete opposite of what it’s for on people with mental health issues. The dark side of meditation.

@Intrusive Thots Having a bad experience with meditation doesn’t mean it’s a demonic spirit or something metaphysical/supernatural. The brain is a complex organ, so we aren’t exactly sure why someone may respond negatively to meditation. It’s a big leap from “we don’t know” to “there’s scientific evidence that demons are responsible.” It’s true that meditation isn’t for everyone, but it’s an incredible tool for tons of people. It has a historical origin in eastern religions, but the practice itself can be 100% secular.

@NOCD Advocate - Carl Cornett Oh, makes sense. I just don’t know why I start seeing things that are pretty much mocking my fears soon after I start meditating. I’ll see things on TV and hear things on the radio, or my mind will overhear people pointing out what I fear. Seems demonic or spiritually evil. It attacks my spirit, whatever that is. Subconscious mind? Intrusive thoughts get worse as well, and not during meditation, I’m talking about the rest of the day and sometimes keeping me up at night. Maybe it’s just my “psychosis.”

@Intrusive Thots Makes sense. Yes, it’s generally not considered a good idea to meditate if you’re suffering from a psychotic disorder.

Demonic forces? Huh, news to me since I’ve been doing meditation and mindfulness for 6 years. No demonic possessions. But weirdly, I sometimes speak Latin in my sleep...

You should research it, and I mean that respectfully.

@Intrusive Thots I’ve already researched it in the religious and scientific sense.

My ocd gets so loud in the silence and right before bed when there’s no distractions. I always struggled with anxiety since my teens and guided meditation used to help… until OCD. First time trying guided meditation with OCD I had an intrusive thought of “what if you actually lose control and can’t follow these instructions?” And got even more anxious 🫠🫠🫠 had to stop, and haven’t tried to meditate ever since. Just curious to know. Sometimes I feel like I have the worst type of OCD. It will latch onto anything to make me anxious!

I feel like I dont have control of what I say in my head that I feel like it's not me saying those things. I was trying to pray and I was cursing at God and the spirit and now I'm scared because I feel like it's me and not an intrusive thought. I have an appointment later and I was trying to pray about that in my head but now that I did that I feel like things will go wrong .

I have intrusive thoughts about God. But sometimes it seems like I do think them myself. I don't agree with them. But it's like I get too exhausted to fight anymore, or when my mind calms down, I don't feel right without the thoughts so I think them myself and idk why. I'm pretty sure I'm going to hell.
