Avoidance can be compulsive. You do not have to follow an order OCD gives you.
I struggle with this do bad. I have harm OCD and real event OCD as well a few others. I really enjoy watching true crime. It blows my mind how truly evil people can be. But sometimes it triggers me so bad. So lately I haven't been watching it. So I kinda feel like it's damned if you do and danmed if you don't. If I watch. I will probably get triggered If I don't, its giving into my avoidance compulsion. I just can't win.
The effect it has on you will be less the more you disobey your OCD and watch what you want to watch.
