ocd waxes and wanes, some days are good and some days are bad and seemingly without rhyme or reason. my suggestion to members is to try to stay as consistent as possible - even on/especially on the bad days. try to still do the things you value, still try to make decisions based in what YOU want to do vs what your fears tell you, and try still as hard as you can to resist/reduce/postpone rituals. you've got this

unfortunately ocd is chronic. recovery comes with bad days. i hope i don’t upset you by saying that you’ll always have ocd and there will be days where you’re fine and feel control and the next day could be the opposite. it absolutely sucks i know, but that’s the reality of this disorder. stay strong!

Luna is right. This is how OCD works. You will have good days and bad days. But ERP can change your life and help you have more good days than bad.

The need to convince yourself you don't like or want the thoughts is a compulsion. Yes, it will relieve your anxiety, but only briefly. When you give into a compulsion, you are telling your brain the thought really is a threat. So it will bring you the thought more often. It also makes your OCD. The best thing you can do is acknowledge the thought "There's that OCD thought again" then completely ignore it. Don't try to argue or reason with it. Don't try to disprove it. Eventually, it will go away. ERP really helps as well. Do you have a counselor that understands OCD and specializes in ERP?
