Xanax usually isn’t prescribed for everyday use because it’s highly addictive. It’s recommended to use only in emergency of panic attack. It doesn’t help with depression only anxiety but it won’t help it long term it just gets addictive. I was prescribed lorazepam at an ER visit which is another type of Xanax or could be the same to be honest. I was taking it for a few days in a row because it did help with anxiety but i was out of it most of the day. I went in to my doctors and she said it’s not meant to be taken everyday
@Yali<3 Since then I stopped taking it and currently on Zoloft which has been working for me. It’s for depression and intrusive thoughts
I have used both Xanax and Ativan. I find that they’re really helpful for intrusive thoughts and anxiety. They calm my anxiety, so then the intrusive thoughts don’t bother me so much. However, I only take this type of medication every once in a while because they can be addictive.
I have suffered with OCD over 35 years. I highly recommend SSRIs or SNRIs over Xanax or another quick fix med. When you're on right med, you can feel a panic attack start and burn in your chest but dissipate before it rushes through your arms and legs. Xanax and like meds are quick fixes that are too addictive. Trust me - I was had panic as a teen back in the 80s when Xanax first came around and was given to me. Highly addictive. SSRIs and SNRIs take weeks to take effect but they're a great tool again panic and OCD intrusive thoughts. Beta blockers work well too, as well as gabapentin, which is non addictive.
Hey friends, I hope you all are well. I just wanted to check in and ask people's experiences about being on medication. I have had OCD pretty much my whole life, just got recently diagnosed 4 months ago and my therapist recommended that I get on meds for it so I have a psychiatrist appointment set up. I'm a little apprehensive about getting on them, but I've realized that I do have some sort of chemical imbalance in my brain that plays a part in my OCD and anxiety. I would love to hear anyones experiences or words of encouragement. Thank you, I hope you all are well.
Medication for OCD? Hello all, 19 male here, this seems like a cool community that isn’t nearly as triggering as reddit. I have pretty severe bouts of existential thinking or fear of going crazy ( psychosis ) after some pretty heavy mushroom trips a few years ago, I know logically I should be fine but I do know what it’s like to lose it and it’s scary. Currently I deal with relationship focused OCD, it’s all day from before I even open my eyes. I want things to work out with my girlfriend badly. Also I can come close to a panic attack sometimes which perpetuates everything. Anyway, I mention the fear of going crazy because the way my anxiety/derealization makes me feel is that I’m not mentally stable cause I feel out of it or unreal. I saw that a lot of anxiety and depression medication can cause psychosis and I feel like I could use some help in getting ahead of my OCD because the compulsions are had not to give into when I’m in such distress/not knowing. Plus overall I just feel like I have no idea how I feel about close to anything. Anyone relate about that ?
I just got diagnosed with ocd and she suggested I think about taking lexapro for it. Has anybody tried that and does it help at all?
