I fully understand your struggle with intrusive thoughts. I’m 62 and would say I’ve had OCD since my 20’s. I started getting counseling for it 1 1/2 years ago when I started with NOCD. It has been a huge help. They have helped me to retrain my brain and also helped me to realize to not take intrusive thoughts seriously. It takes work but it is so worth it. The only difference between you and me is what triggers us. I know you can say “No” to OCD 👍.
I love your humor… the OCD troll really does love when we will to do anything to get rid of the thoughts 😩 ERP helps us face the thoughts, and realize that’s all they are, jus thoughts, and to not apply meaning at all the them, just let them be!
Before I started therapy, I also identified with the “pure O” OCD label. And there’s nothing wrong with that label, but it is a bit misleading. Mental rumination, mental review, mental avoidance, mental neutralization, and mental checking may not have an outward/physical action, but they are still compulsions! Continuing to engage in those activities will only keep us locked in OCD’s loop. Luckily ERP is effective for all compulsions, whether physical or mental! I definitely recommend calling NOCD for their free consultation or finding a local therapist who specializes in OCD treatment with evidence-based research/therapy. Keep on fighting and know you aren’t alone!
