Anyone had a positive experience with medication? I want to try it but I am very scared about the potential of not feeling like myself or the sexual dysfunction side effect making my ROCD/SOOCD worse :/
Before I knew I had OCD, I got on sertraline (zoloft) for anxiety and found that it helped me very much. I kept on it for around 2-3 years until I felt like it was becoming less effective. I think the best plan would be to combine medication with ERP and I truly wish I had done this, because I probably would still be on zoloft if I had.
@Christiansg2_3 Did you feel numb/not like yourself on Zoloft? I have heard some bad stories from other people online
@Keepongoing - No, honestly, when I was first on it, it felt like I was free for the first time in my life. I started to sleep a bit more and I lost some weight, but nothing too bad.

@Keepongoing - Prozac for the moment hasn't interfered badly in terms of Erectile Dysfunction or sexual drive in general vs Luvox which was more of an issue.
I found recently that Prozac apparently had the least amount of affect, I’m only 1.5 weeks in but haven’t lost my desire in the same way that Luvox (another SSRI) affected me. I also reduced my SSRI dosage after 1.5 years before fully weaning off and got my sex drive back. In retrospect, I should have kept taking a lesser dose vs stopping

@httpet It helped with everything. My mood improved, the anxiety was less and when it did show up, it was much easier to manage/cope… sometimes I feel fatigued but there’s no way to know if it’s from the meds or just from mental illness in general. Off of Zoloft I had crippling anxiety that would bring me to my knees sobbing several times a week
@Keepongoing It’s both. It’s less anxiety so I can accept the uncertainty easier and therefore move on instead of doing compulsions such as rumination. So the lessened anxiety and increased ability to do the mindfulness/coping strategies result in less intrusive thoughts because I’m not obsessing over them. Everyone has intrusive thoughts, but with the SSRI my initial reaction isn’t always fight or flight like it would be without med
Trust that I did and went through ERP and felt way better. And even got clarity in a sense that I continued to live my life for almost two years in remission. I am not in the best place right now but I also stopped SSRI and therapy for almost 2 years and smoked weed incessantly which kept the thoughts at bay as well but to be honest when I stopped smoking, it came back 10 fold. The sexual dysfunction can be limited, you gotta take a test and do research and find the one that will least affect your sexual drive
I tried sertraline, it seemed to stop the new intrusive thoughts but didn’t stop me ruminating on the old ones. I was also more depressed/ suicidal but I only tried it for a month, so think I maybe needed to give it more time. I’m in a better place now but I think mainly cos I moved back to uni so want able to wallow in my room and constantly confess and use my parents for reassurance etc
What dosage did you take? Was it too high or it just didn’t work for you
So I have been diagnosed with GAD and OCD and my psychiatrist prescribed me with zoloft 🤔 but I dont know im really hesitant to start medication because im scared of the side effects and ik afraid of relying on a medication for a long time. Does anyone else take zoloft? What is it like? Any side effects?
I understand that everyone is different but lately I have been debating on medication just because of past experiences but does anyone have any good experiences with medication that has helped them with their OCD as well as therapy or treatment? As of now I’m dealing with it by myself but it feels like it may be getting worse
Can people please share their experiences on very low dose medications for their OCD? Maybe ones that have worked well with little side effects? Anything is helpful & thank you
