Very Awkward Questions

1. Do u guys do things like preparing clothes completely - from underwear to earings before going somewhere? 2. Do u do things like controlling your receipt at home in way that you control whether products stated on the receipt are the ones you have at home, you reassure yourself mentally that you used loyalty card if u had one for the particular store, if u pay cash u reassure yourself you have given the correct amount of money and was given the correct amount pf money back/ if u pay by card you reassure yourself that the price on the receipt is the one that was sent to you in the notifications panel on your mobile? 3. After parking the car - mentally reassuring yourself that you’ ve parked the car correctly, there s enough space from each siede for another car, the windows are closed, car is locked?

I fully understand your struggle. I have learned how to deal with OCD but I feel I am a half a breath away from a compulsion. I could be having a really good day then an OCD thing will come up. Two things about the “car” things. When my OCD skyrocketed 2 years ago I would pull on the window switches way to hard and do it again and again to make sure they were closed. I lock the car using the horn as an indicator the car was locked. So one of my first ERP things was to lock the car without using the horn. And I couldn’t go out and check to make sure it was locked. That was hard. I had to continue on with my day without checking to see if the car was locked. To be honest it really isn’t an issue for me now. But it was difficult. I have come along way in the last 1 1/2 years in dealing with my OCD. Believe me

@LowellT Sorry I sent it before I finished. I have shed tears and sweat from anxiety saying “No” to OCD. It is treatable, but it takes work. It is difficult. And I have had very hard days and very good days. On one very hard day my NOCD counselor asked what I enjoy doing. One of the things was going out for a coffee and donut and reading. She said I should do it that day. She knew I needed to get out of the “I am so frustrated about OCD “ mood. I also had a problem with sleep as well. I understand your OCD struggles. Believe me I know the work is hard, but it is so worth it. I know you can do the hard work.

@LowellT Thank you for sharing this, it is very helpful to me. I’m having hope that it could get better, as I see ERP helped you. The issue is, however, here where I live - there is almost nobody doing ERP therapies, and the very few who specialize in it are full, I keep searching information, experiences

Not awkward at all. These are completely normal! I do the second one and third one occasionally. I’m sure someone else out there also does the first one, yeah. One thing I’ve realized is that OCD always seems to set us apart from people, but it’s not very creative, really. It follows the same old patterns. You’re not alone, and keep working on your ERP! Try and let yourself reassure yourself a specific amount of times: only five times, then a few days later only four, then three, etc. It’ll be slow but this has worked for me a bit! Hope everything goes well for you ❤️

@TPD Thank you for your support🤍 I’ll try to reduce the amount of times I control the things, I’ve already tried but it’s very hard because the thoughts are always coming back. I’m glad that there is someone who also does what I do, I now know that it can be worked on this stuff and there is more of us struggling this battle😔

The first one for me! I have to plan my whole outfit and my day before even touching my makeup. Or I have to put all of my work stuff together the night before work cause I wake up early and I’ll get anxiety about forgetting anything.

I have worked on your #3 about parking the car. I used to be concerned if my car door hit the car next to me when I got out. So it was ERP time. I would park next to a car get out walk to the back if my car and get back in without looking at the car next to me. If I did look I would do it over again. Well after having done it again, again, again etc. etc. I can now say it isn’t nearly an issue as it was before. That was a situation where I clearly saw how ERP helps to change the brain. Was I stressed and anxious when I was doing the ERP parking? Absolutely. Was it worth getting anxious and getting in with my day without doing the compulsion to look at the car next to me? Absolutely.

@LowellT I sent this by mistake before I finished it. I would say the only weapon OCD has is doubt. The more we say “No” to OCD the less control OCD has in our life. The only difference between you and me is what triggers us. I know you can say “No” to OCD 👍.

@LowellT I’m really trying to say no to OCD and not engage in what it forces me to do, but it’s so hard cause the thoughts won t let my head, I cannot sleep if I m not reassured about something that I need to be reassured about. But I’ll try more, I’m very glad that you are better now and know how to deal with OCD🤍

Does anyone have the same thoughts?

Does anyone have harm OCD related to recent events? Like events that just happened or happened not long ago? I feel like my OCD is trying to find something bad/immoral I could have done in nearly every situation that I am experiencing, for example “Did you just do that?”. And I constantly want to check, ask people for reassurance, try to find a logic answer by going it though in my head,… It’s many different themes but all related to doing sth bad/immoral (e.g., touching someone inappropriately, pushing someone in front of a vehicle, putting something in a drink/food). Does anyone have the same? Or the other thing that I experienced recently is that I did something (a rather unimportant action, not harming anyone) and I go over and over it and ask myself “why did you do that? What does that say about you? Are you actually a weird person?” It feels like I draw “false conclusions” from a real event… I don’t know if that’s OCD though or not. Just wondering if anyone has experienced the same. Good luck to you all! We’re not alone in this! 😊

Any helpful erp methods?

I’ll list some key things with my main subtype, and I hope that I can get some erp advice, but it’s okay if not, I know nobody is my therapist..! 1. I have this thing where when I feel false attraction about a k!d, I will be immediately convinced and say “that means I am?” “I am attracted” “I feel attracted?” “He’s attractive” not to be weird but I panic and say these because I don’t want them, and I feel like I agree with it, this makes me feel like a bad person when I say them (sometimes I can’t help it when I get really stressed) what can I do for this to be better? 2. My brain will give me an intrusive question, asking if I’d do this,this or that, and I feel like agreeing or saying yes to this, sometimes I will hear a yes and I’ll freak out 3. When I get triggered by a photo, I have to keep checking and checking (this will always last forever) till I’m sure that I think the photo is cute or adorable and not in any way that I feel false attraction Whenever I feel convinced, I feel bad that I feel convinced and it’ll say “well if you were a good person, why do you allow yourself to get convinced even if you know you aren’t this”

Is it in my head

I have constantly been feeling like if I hit one arm, I have to hit the other and if I set something down and it just didn’t look right or feel right I had to do it again or I had to move it to a different spot in my room I’ve had never been a clean freak, which is mainly what I get told is OCD And I don’t know if I should even have this app. I don’t know if I actually have it. I’m constantly worried that I did something in my past that harmed others and that’s why people don’t like me or I’m constantly worried People are constantly watching me and I don’t know if that’s OCD or if I have it so please tell me I will delete this app and never think of it again if I don’t I just really wanna know
