Yeah what the title says,I’m curious because I want to take some eventually but I’ve heard so many different options from many people and I’m not sure what I should go for to try first. I know everyone’s different and different Symptoms occur differently for everyone but still I’m curious! Also do you have to get a diagnosis before taking meds? Because I want to get a diagnosis eventually as well.
I have tried sertraline, pristiq and I’m taking chlomipramine now. The sertraline made gain to much weight. I think clomipramine works better for me. But is different for everyone
@Gabbi_29 I take clomipramine too. How long did it take for you notice a difference? I’ve been on it since February and haven’t felt a difference yet.
@Yourmindislyingtoyou I’ve been taking it since November of last year, I think started notice a difference on the second month but I don’t know :( sometimes it is hard to notice, I think it helped me with my physical rituals but I still have a lot of mental compulsions
It depends on the person, so that’s why it’s best to speak to your doctor who knows you better than random people online. Who, yes, do have OCD but they are different from you too, so the experience isn’t the same.
I've taken 6 different medications, but the one that worked the best for me was zoloft (sertraline). When I first got on it (I was diagnosed with anxiety at the time, I wasn't aware it was OCD) it kept me in check for years. It made me a bit more tired and I lost some weight, but other than that, there were no notable side effects.

@johnnn My advice would be to not dig too deep into a memory. You can make yourself believe anything & more digging never helps.

@johnnn Avoiding rumination, it’s a compulsion that involves digging deeply into thoughts & memories. When you find yourself digging, you have to stop. If you completely stop and let the worries be there, it will eventually pass & over time you will begin to care less and less about the thought.

@johnnn - There's a few things I would suggest doing for false memory OCD. Firstly, you have to be okay with uncertainty. Your memories are in the past, they may have happened or they may not have happened. You have to stop digging. You will never be able to convince your brain you didn't or did do something in the past. I would suggest doing ERP by putting yourself in situations that remind you of the event you are worried about, get some photos from around that time, do the activity you did in the memory, and when you are triggered, sit in that discomfort. The most important part is stopping the compulsions. You have to be okay with the uncertainty of this, that it is just a thought and a having a thought does not make it true. I think the two biggest compulsions you need to avoid are reassurance seeking and ruminating. Allow those worries to exist.

(25f) Before I was diagnosed with OCD I tried Lexapro (wasn’t bad but wasn’t great) and Citalopram (partially think it was a part of what caused me to develop severe anxiety that ignited my once not so active OCD.) After diagnosis tried Effexor and didn’t see an improvement. Was on Adderall for a good amount of my life and mentally did good on it, stopped about 2 years ago because the physical side effects started to become more noticeable. Maybe I go back on Adderall? Maybe SSRI’s and I aren’t a great fit? Anyone taking other medications that helped?
I understand that everyone is different but lately I have been debating on medication just because of past experiences but does anyone have any good experiences with medication that has helped them with their OCD as well as therapy or treatment? As of now I’m dealing with it by myself but it feels like it may be getting worse
As my current mental health has definitely reached a new low, I will probably soon start with medication. However, since I am actually somewhat afraid of the typical side effects of antidepressants and mood-stabilizers, I wanted to ask anyone who is or has been taking medication for OCD and or depression (and mood-swings). I recently got also diagnosed with depression (I’ll be further tested for burnout) and I also suffer from pretty intense mood swings and anxiety, both really draining the last bit of energy that I currently have. You can honestly be as specific and descriptive as you want since I don’t know any people in my personal life that take any medication for their mental health and I’m genuinely curious about side effects, how long the different meds take to kick in, etc. The only meds I’m familiar with are beta blockers, specifically bisoprolol but I want to switch to propranolol.
