Hi all, what is the best medication for OCD I’m currently taking lexapro 20mg. It does the job for the most part but not fully. Not looking for a miracle potion but just thought I’d ask what everyone else’s experience’s were and if any in particular work better for this shitty condition. Thanks !

@MBH99 Dosage adjustments are a challenge. I’ve been on it for nine weeks, rapidly titrated to 200. It is as good as any ssri, I suppose. None are without side effects or a lag between starting and feeling the therapeutic effects. I don’t want to say one is better than the other, but I’m still on it fwiw.
@Anonymous What dose did you start at? And when you increased dosage, did it take another 4-6 weeks to feel improvements? Or is it a little faster considering it’s already in your system?
Following. I take 25mg sertraline (really low dose). Have a follow up appt with my family doctor Thursday to discuss progress and upping the dose. Really hoping I see more results with the increase. How long have you been on lexapro?
@TaylorR13 All the best! I have been taking it for about 4 months roughly. 10mg for 3 months then upped it. For the more part it works well, not so much for the ocd but the guilt, depression ect that comes with it. Helps make ocd more bareable day to day. I’m wondering if there is a drug out there that targets ocd specifically 🤔
@MBH99 - Luvox was approved for OCD specifically
I’ve heard some ssri’s require a high dose to be effective in managing ocd. Everyone’s different but definitely worth talking to your doctor about!
You should always speak to your doctor about medication but I take 10mg buspar and it's not helping me
I was taking 25 mg of luvox for a few months and it really helped my ocs. Its typically used specifically to treat ocd. I would have definitely kept taking it if it didnt seem to cause other issues for me but I wish I couldve stayed on it
Hey friends, I hope you all are well. I just wanted to check in and ask people's experiences about being on medication. I have had OCD pretty much my whole life, just got recently diagnosed 4 months ago and my therapist recommended that I get on meds for it so I have a psychiatrist appointment set up. I'm a little apprehensive about getting on them, but I've realized that I do have some sort of chemical imbalance in my brain that plays a part in my OCD and anxiety. Medication for OCD? Hello all, 19 male here, this seems like a cool community that isn’t nearly as triggering as reddit. I have pretty severe bouts of existential thinking or fear of going crazy ( psychosis ) after some pretty heavy mushroom trips a few years ago, I know logically I should be fine but I do know what it’s like to lose it and it’s scary. Currently I deal with relationship focused OCD, it’s all day from before I even open my eyes. I want things to work out with my girlfriend badly. Also I can come close to a panic attack sometimes which perpetuates everything. Anyway, I mention the fear of going crazy because the way my anxiety/derealization makes me feel is that I’m not mentally stable cause I feel out of it or unreal. I saw that a lot of anxiety and depression medication can cause psychosis and I feel like I could use some help in getting ahead of my OCD because the compulsions are had not to give into when I’m in such distress/not knowing. Plus overall I just feel like I have no idea how I feel about close to anything. Anyone relate about that ?
I just got diagnosed with ocd and she suggested I think about taking lexapro for it. Has anybody tried that and does it help at all?
