TW IF YOU HAVE EXISTENTIAL OCD i have convinced myself that life is hell and it has just started unfolding into my hell and my brains reasoning for this is that i can’t seem to imagine how i’m living my own life and everyone else is living theirs — does that make sense at all?? i can’t fathom we are all conscious im freaking out over this and have been for a month or so
Yes it does make sense! You are not alone. Sorry to hear of your pain. Would you like to vent about it more to get it all out there? Have your tried and ERP or therapy?
@JordTheNord i just started therapy through this app actually!! i feel like i have struggled w the existential theme all my life and i’ve had to purposefully numb myself to put the glasses of the matrix back on if that makes sense… like i wish i could walk through the world being like society is society because it is for example and not overthink it into such a rabbit hole that im breaking down every structure and questioning if things that are considered morally wrong in society are intrinsically wrong for example it stresses me out that i am living my own life. i struggle a lot w death too bc i can’t imagine an afterlife or even resurrection but i can’t also imagine non-existence bc even non-existence is existing if in nothing else but a concept😭😭😭😭 also it shouldn’t even matter i just CANNOT stop my brain from wandering and the future scares me too bc it feels like all my ocd fears are premonitions and i will end up in my worse case scenarios

@hhsudidjdjjs When the thoughts have gotten too intense for me, seems like we are or have been in the same level, I tell myself it’s just a thought. I’m real this thought isn’t, it’s just a thought. Another thing that has helped me is going for walks and acknowledging vocally what I’m experiencing with my senses. It’s may seem weird but it helps.
Ok first, you are a very aware and intelligent human being. You are picking up on things in your life, environment, your inner self, and it’s A LOT of information ALL AT ONCE. You are processing heavy (not bad) information which goes without saying causes the heavy emotions. Drugs actually do this to us as well. If we take appropriate dosages (everyone is different even if we use weed or alcohol as examples) they function with a little heightened experience of reality but they do not drown in it by consuming to much (whatever that may be for the individual). Take shrooms for example. Micro dosing is done to get tiny hits of it to still function but to open the mind compared to taking a lot and tripping balls. You are picking up on so much stuff around you on top of the OCD just really ruminating and going down a negative thought process or doubting process the majority of the time with the information you’re taking in. And again it’s a lot. This is actually a growing pain. Because we all experience this even ppl without OCD (existential crisis) our OCD amplifies this. Which is unfortunate because growing pains are uncomfortable but super helpful for us. We as kids go through them a lot when we are understanding the world around us and seeing it change as we change. Don’t focus on stopping your brain from wandering. Let it wander but do not engage it or take it so seriously when it does. Take some notes if you want and then let it go. You’ve done this before you are aware of what you’re doing which is super useful when You apply it during your times of rumination. We cause opportunities for us to practice ERP literally.
Sorry you’re going through this. I can relate to the existential thoughts. Often times I find myself going down the OCD rabbit hole questioning the meaning of life, death, thoughts, consciousness, space, time, shapes, etc. In my journey I’ve learned that I cannot control what comes to my mind but I can control whether to respond. Knowing that this is my OCD, I choose not to engage with or judge my OCD thoughts and I choose to watch them float on. Inherently, some of these questions have no answers. Nor can they be answered with 100% certainty. That being the case, I accept the uncertainty that I (nor anyone else) do not know & rather than doing compulsions, I pass it on to my higher power and move forward living life in accordance with my values. m at the point where every night I contemplate going to the ER for my terrible thoughts. For the past 2.5 years I’ve been struggling with extremely bad existential ocd/nihilism. One day I woke up and had a nihilistic thought and since that day I’ve had severe nihilistic and suicidal thoughts. I truly don’t wanna do anything because in the end we die. In the end life is meaningless because we die. I feel almost delusional bc these thoughts feel true. Anything I do my brain goes “why are you doing this? It’s not gonna matter” I’m getting married in June and I don’t feel anything. I don’t wanna do anything. I don’t care to. I have to quit my RN job at the hospital because of this terrible theme. I don’t see a point in anything. Life doesn’t make sense. Death terrifies me. And life feels meaningless. My life is ruined. I hate ocd I hate it.
Been struggling with existential OCD lately. Very hard to describe the thoughts/feelings, but it is a constant feeling of being stuck in my head. Like what is consciousness and where do I think from? Like I think it’s OCD, maybe it is maybe it isn’t. But if it is, what would be good ERP exercises? Just existing (lol)? And what would be my response prevention? I’m not even sure what mental compulsions I may be doing.
Hey guys so I’m new here and just recently started struggling with some health ocd and thinking I had a brain tumor but it’s taken a turn for the worse and become this existential ocd where I’m questioning quite literally everything in my life, the purpose of being here and stuff. I just started meds yesterday, which is scary for me cause I’ve never been on them before. I keep having thoughts like, why does everything feel like a blur, what’s the meaning of this and I wake up every day with just existential dread. I’ve been having very vivid dreams that make dreaming and reality confusing I also am scared cause I’m dealing with some DP/DR as well. I just wish my life could go back to a few months ago before I knew all of this was possible. I guess I’m just writing this too get it off my chest and see if any of you all have gone through something similar and made it out okay?
