OCD?

Hello, I will try to describe an obsession I have sometimes and then an example of it. I wonder if someone can recognize themselves in this. First of all I am in a relationship. But I have a problem that I get very interested in other women in my surrounding, even though I don’t want to since I love my girlfriend. It gets to almost an obsession that I need to check, for instance a colleague out (not doing anything physical just check them out). And I can’t relax when they are around because I know they are just outside my vision. Can someone relate to this “obsession”? I don’t want to feel this way since I love my girlfriend but this is eating me up…

This happened to me with my ex about a year ago and just hearing you put it into words is still so validating. You aren’t alone and there are definitely so Kant of us are feeling or have felt this same thing.

This is the first time someone has described my experience with rocd and my "obsession". It's this constant hyper awareness of any female presence where you can't even exactly tell what the obsession or compulsion is, you just know it's OCD's fault. The worst part is, you really can't do the opposite. If my ocd is hyperfixating on this woman, should I look at her or ignore her? Since I'm only fixating on her because of my OCD, both these options are "OCD options". I would say it's a neutral obsession and the best way to deal with it is to let your attention drift away, let the thoughts exist but then refocus on your task, approach it mindfully and redirect yourself. That's what helped me although there still are tough periods. Just be aware that the is no "right way" to approach this, acceptance is usually the best way.

@ocdalltheway Have you ever had the experience where one touches you in some way (not a sexual way) and you don’t know how to react and you get anxiety over that you might liked it and that you lingered in the moment? I have an example recently where one women just bumped her side to me in a friendly manner and I get a sort of panic in that second. But at the same time thoughts about liking it, thoughts about did I react the wrong way, did I linger with my shoulder a second too long because I liked it? This is a often reoccurring problem and obsession for me.

@Martin89 Sorry for my late response but of course. I have a memory of my male classmate in high school going for a pen that fell on the floor and brushing his hair against my leg (we were sitting next to eachother) and this weird tingling sensation that I couldn't decide on if it was comfortable or uncomfortable (and the thoughts/doubts went crazy the instant it happened). It's probably the first time it happened that strongly, that's why it's such a vivid memory. After that it started to happen with anyone I touched. I got over it by just accepting the feeling, if a female colleague touches me and the feeling/thoughts pop up I just kinda agree with the thoughts and move on. It's like that sensation/doubts package that I don't care too much about. Sometimes it does catch me off guard but it's rare. Agreeing with the thoughts and doubts is for me the step before viewing the whole experience as just an experience, I don't judge it. It's also really hard to do, that's why I have faith in this method 😅
