i don’t want to be gay as i’ve always imagined life with a husband and have been attracted to guys since elementary. i don’t think i had any ocd tendencies before this. i just woke up one day and was like what if im not straight. i just want to know for sure if i am. does this sound like ocd
it is a possibility but also i would try to dig in more of why you may be interested in the same gender it is possible to be apart of the LGBT community and still have OCD. I go back and forth a lot and then i remember that bisexuality exists. I know the difference between my ocd thoughts and sexuality bc of how i feel with the people i’ve dated before in the past the love spirit and emotional with each person and different gender identity. there is nothing wrong with exploring it and that way you can at least cross it off the list
@Boosboots Like if she has got OCD your advice you shoood not be giving no being rude but I have sexuality orientation ocd and if you was to say that to me that would send my anxiety over the roof. Not good advice at all sorry not trying to be rude.

Do you understand that someone with obsessions can't figure things out cause they obsess all day and can't help It and also we Need to accept uncertanty when It comes to obsession? She Will understand her sexuality, but She can't Just go and try if She has OBSESSIONS about her sexuality. It's different than Just questioning, you're literally invalidating a whole ocd themw.
@Boosboots She needs a therapist that can help her understand if She has ocd or if it's something else, that's the only thing we can tell her to do.

@Boosboots I get what you’re saying but this isn’t helpful and will lead to more feelings of confusion. You don’t just wake up and identify as another sexual orientation—it’s a process that takes time. Yes, it is possible but typically not probable. If she finds out that she doesn’t have OCD and is dealing with internalized homophobia, then that’s something she needs help coming to terms with and should seek out a therapist for that as well. But for now, I don’t think exploring is going to solve her problems rn bc she’s clearly distressed and needs support while she’s making sense of her feelings. Exploring will likely backfire as well bc she’d probably feel more uncertain and anxious than before.
@blazed i just started therapy a couple days ago. i’ve been diagnosed with anxiety in the past so i’m anxious to tell my therapist about these thoughts. the thoughts are taking up my life. it’s all i can think about. i really don’t want to be gay which sounds so homophobic to say but it just wouldn’t feel right to me. it doesn’t align with what i want out of life. i guess my question is how should i bring this up to my therapist?

@….mmocd Are you seeing an OCD specialist? If not, then it’s unlikely that your therapist will understand what you’re going through. You can ask him/her if they’re trained in ERP therapy and ask for an assessment for OCD. But if he/she isn’t, you should see another therapist who is. @Boosboots I don’t think your correct at all people are what they are and if I was gay or anyone else I would care but the fact I’m discusted with myself over it if your gay you would act on these thoughts and compulsions this is what I’ve learned your whole response isn’t good for someone who dealing with it daily

@Boosboots sure, i can elaborate. i know this whole thing may sound confusing. let me start off by saying that sexual orientation ocd can affect anyone regardless of their sexuality - that’s because sexuality isn’t actually the core fear, it’s uncertainty. granted, it may look like sexuality confusion to other people, which makes sufferers of this theme feel guilty, fearful and even more convinced that they’re lying to themselves. the individual who made this post did not use the terminology that they are “questioning,” but rather used the words “what if” and “i just want to know for sure.” those are two big indications that they desire certainty for something about themselves, regardless of the topic. does this make sense? homosexuality is most certainly not a disorder, ocd is. hopefully op can be connected with a therapist so they can tackle this properly :)

So my whole life I’ve been heterosexual. I have got hocd so I worry I’m a lesbian when I have no reason to worry about it because im straight ( not that my ocd likes to think that tho lol! ). But there’s this thought I have, How do I know I’m 100% straight if I haven’t tried sleeping with a girl? Bear in mind I’ve NEVER WANTED TO and DONT want too. Hence why it is an INTRUSIVE thought. But the thought is so uncomfortable- I can’t seem to shift it. But i do see that THIS IS OCD & wanting to know for certain. Thats the definition of OCD. I do know that but it’s tough with the stupid doubts!!! Do you guys just live with the unknown / uncertainty. I’m so happy and love my boyfriend and only want to be with him etc. Let me say again, I DONT want to sleep with a girl nor have I ever fantasized about it. But why does ocd want 100% certainty.. I just wanna not have that weird niggling thought.
I need too know that I'm not insane, really. I am 16 and for the past two weeks, this has been completely ruining my health and happiness. I only recently came out as a lesbian like 3 months ago after a lot of confusion about my attraction since I used to think I liked men. At first, I felt so sure that I liked women, but lately, I've been having these unwanted thoughts about the possibility of liking men. I never used to feel this way, but now, every time I look at a man, my brain obsessively fixates on it. It forces me to imagine kissing him, loving him, things I don’t want, and then tries to convince me that I do. It’s painful. The thought of this fills me with fear and anxiety, leading to panic attacks and breakdowns. I don’t want these thoughts. I hate them with every fiber of my being, but I’m terrified that one day I’ll act on them and somehow like it. I used to think I liked men, but back then, I was in a very unhealthy space in a time of escapism and something deeply parasocial. I’ve only ever liked the attention and validation a man could give me, but these experiences are somehow treated as further proof that I’m "bisexual." I’ve never been in a real relationship with anyone, which makes my brain constantly challenge me—telling me, “You don’t even know what love feels like.” It won’t shut up. It keeps obsessively trying to make me prove that I’m a lesbian, testing my reactions and questioning my certainty. Is this normal?
For me it was a weird intrusive thought and after that I slowly started developing anxiety and I felt a weird thing like I was losing my attraction to girls. Then I woke up one day in complete panic cuz it felt like I had lost feelings for girls suddenly and I started searching online how to know if you’re gay if sexuality changes suddenly and I took some gay tests or sexuality tests online. Chat gpt was a big thing back then too. That was before therapy and before I knew what ocd is.Can anyone relate?
