Hey! I don’t want to get too political or upset anyone, but I just am feeling really alone: Has anyone else been facing moral scrupulosity or other intrusive thoughts about world events like the war on Gaza? It’s hard to know what’s an appropriate amount of concern and what’s OCD and it’s kind of taking over my life.
Yes I'm dealing with this as well, my heart aches because I can't do anything to support and even my voice won't be noticed because I'm irrelevant and don't have a high status.
@Moha🍃 I feel you. The feeling of helplessness is so real, and mixed with OCD’s tendency toward hyperresponsibility, I feel so confused and sick :( thank you for sharing, though. Hoping you can find some peace.
Yes, my ocd has been so bad over this. I am trying to limit my time on places like social media, but it’s hard.

I have connection to what’s going on in Israel/Palestine as well as in Ukraine. Every single day I question how humanity did end up this way, I don’t know who is right. All people seems to be evil and foolish

Hello! I was wondering if people with religious or moral scrupulosity can relate to this! I identify as gay (I’ve known it since I was a preteen) and I grew up in a religiously conservative household and in a culture that does not accept the LGBT community. Growing up, I’ve made a lot of progress in accepting myself and learning to love myself for who I am despite the lack of acceptance and support from my cultural and family background. …however, it has obviously been a tough road. And recently, I think I’ve started developing scrupulosity around my sexuality. Basically, I wanted to rediscover my faith in a way that helped me, but it ended up just causing me a lot of distress because the LGBT are not exactly affirmed by the Catholic Church. And despite my best efforts, I feel like I’ve slid so far back into a pit of guilt, shame, and disgust with myself. I have so many intrusive thoughts that being LGBT is not natural, is not right, is something that can and should be changed or fixed, even when I know these to not be true. I’m curious to know if anyone else with religious or moral scrupulosity experiences similar feelings of guilt or shame about who they are. Not only do the intrusive thoughts themselves make me feel guilty, but I have intrusive thoughts that I AM bad and that I should feel shame and disgust about myself. I’m hesitant to post this not only because I don’t want to trigger others but also because I don’t want it to be reassurance seeking or a compulsion, but I do have doubt that this isnt just from my OCD and that I should be exploring other forms of therapy to deal with these problems.
Since scrupulosity is a big part of OCD, I was wondering how other people deal with moral dilemmas. Things like choosing whether or not to support a company because of problematic ties or actions of employees or associated people, is something I'm struggling with. It feels like if I were to support certain things (companies, video games, etc.) that I've been supporting for a while I would be directly or indirectly supporting people who have done bad things. But sometimes giving those things up is difficult, and it feels like I'm losing a part of myself. I also feel that if I were to ask for guidance, I'm not really asking for guidance so much as hoping people will say it's fine for me to keep supporting those things for one reason or another. The burden feels like it's entirely on me to make these decisions, and either way it feels like there's no right decision. It's really overwhelming, and I'm having trouble navigating it.
