Hi everyone! Unfortunately, I am an individual who loves cooking but also suffers from contamination OCD. This really impacts the enjoyment I get from cooking and has recently been stopping me from cooking all together. Any tips or similar experience appreciated (:
i think one thing to keep in mind is that it’s YOU cooking it, you can cook to your standards, if you were in a restaurant or having takeout you don’t know who’s cooked it,what’s touched it etc… atleast cooking at home you know everything (i’m not sure if this makes sense but i hope it helps)
hey not much help here but wanted to comment you’re not alone and how I struggle with this I find it hard to cook and be in the kitchen because of contamination ocd For me I think because I live with parents and family I know people would’ve touched taps/cupboards / food/ ingredients and so I end up avoiding cooking which leads me to not eat enough
Anyone got contamination ocd recovery stories? I heard this is the hardest form of OCD to overcome from my doctors and I feel honestly discouraged.
I’m new to this app and really happy to be within a community of people working through same thing. I have been working through contamination ocd since the start of the pandemic. It’s debilitating mentally. It just wants me to seek certainty in every compulsion and also reassurance and researching online incessantly. Anyone else struggle with this specific ocd? Wiping down doorknobs every time someone touches them. I can’t even sit outside in the grass I’m afraid of the pandemic. I won’t touch my groceries for three days. I miss my old self. I literally feel like a different person since March.
Who else on here has contamination OCD it would be awesome to talk to others in the same boat
