Can you get groinals and other intrusive feelings while on medication? Because I’m on sertraline and I still get the intrusive thoughts and feelings and my mind now tells me that if it was only my anxiety then I wouldn’t get them anymore and now I’m scared I’m actually a bad person?
yes. Medication does not take away the thoughts or the physical responses, it alters the way you interpret them. I am on medication, I still have the intrusive thoughts and feelings, but I no longer respond to them with anxiety or compulsions so they don't have power over me anymore.
@TexasOCD41 Does that means it help you with the urge to do compulsions ? If so did it decrease your intrusive thoughts because you are not doing compulsions? I’m at a cycle right now for 3 months and I can’t stop obsessing and doing compulsions all day. And the urge is the biggest. It’s feels like when some thought go down then less then a second new and scary one come. And I’m nerved having a break. Can medication help with the need to get rid of intrusive thoughts by doing compulsions? Cause I’m probably going to take meds and if it’s not going to help I don’t know what I would do this is my only hope. Sorry for asking a lot to it’s just that I’m losing my hope
@OrMsB - It helps with reducing anxiety and gets me to a stable place which helped me stop my compulsions but I also had to work hard to stop my compulsions, medication is not a cure but it allows you to have the stability to do the work to fix yourself. Medication saved my life I can say that.
@TexasOCD41 Do you know if it’s help other emotions then anxiety. Like making you more calm? Cause for example even if I’m not anxious sometimes ,I can’t be calm
@OrMsB - they mainly focus on anxiety and depression. If you are not anxious, how do you describe the inability to be calm. to me, I'm either anxious or I'm calm, there isn't a middle ground where I can be both of neither.
@TexasOCD41 I don’t know honestly like I don’t feel very anxious. But I don’t feel calm too. It’s weird maybe I feel little anxious that it’s makes me think I don’t feel anxious. But I just don’t feel calm like my brain can’t shout down and my head kinda hurts. And wanting to throw up from being disgust. Sometimes feel a pain my chest it’s depends
@OrMsB - Thats all anxiety. you are not calm if you are experiencing those emotions and feelings.
I’ve tried a bunch of medications and am currently on sertraline as well. My intrusive thoughts have never gone away with the help of meds. Medication helps levels of my anxiety and depression that make my OCD a little easier to work through sometimes, but it’s not a fix all for the obsessions and compulsions and ruminating. I’ve tried for years now to fix it with meds or something quick that can just “take it away” but I now have come to the understanding that the only way out is through them and retraining your mind and body until you can say ya that’s a thought but move on and not let it consume you, easier said than done, I’m still in a bit of denial myself that there’s no medication that can give me this quickly.
That's ok... you aren't a bad person. I guess I'm giving you reassurance tho, but meds can help with the whole process
Hi everyone. I’ve been doing therapy for about two months now and I would say it’s slowly helping me a lot. I explained to her the breathing techniques and “sitting in the anxiety for a bit” and I feel like those are helping. But then my therapist said “don’t sit in the thought because then you might act on it”. I don’t “sit in the thought” but rather i sit in the anxiety to comdition my brain into thinking it’s not a threat. But ever since yesterday, my therapy appointment, I’ve been really shooken up. Even though I don’t “sit in the thought” I feel like a bad person that she even had to bring it up even though I explained it wrong. I’m so upset I feel like I just took 3000 steps back from my progress and this little thing is really scaring me. Am I a bad person? I don’t want to act on any of my thoughts and it scares me so bad I hate living.
I feel like the thoughts are telling me, "You want this, you want to be attracted to kids" when I know that's not the case. I've been stuck ruminating for the past couple of days and I'm so worried about this disorder convincing me that I'm something I've never been. I try not to fight it, but when I don't it feels like I'm giving into it like it's true. The meds I'm on keep me from being super depressed, but it's still there. I feel like I'm going to act on my thoughts one day and it worries me. I don't feel like myself anymore and I don't know if this is progress or a relapse. Even when having intercourse with my partner, I had to thought block because the thoughts were images while in the middle of it. Then afterwards, they came flooding in saying that I was doing it as a distraction. I don't know what else to do. I try to pinpoint all of my triggers, but sometimes I don't think I even have any. I feel like a monster. I'm honestly scared.
Prior to starting meds I had intrusive thoughts but not to this degreee! I’ve also just started my period? My doctor basically said to suck it up or up the dose which I’m not overly keen on! Of course my over thinking brain keeps saying but if you come off what if they get worse again?
