Medicine question
Viibryd/vilazodone has anyone taken it? What’s your thoughts on it? Has it helped you? Any major side effects?

Hi! I’m on vilazodone. I started about a month ago and I was in a REALLY bad place and it certainly has helped. I had a bad experience with Zoloft so I did that genetic testing to see what would work for me and vilazodone was the one my psych and I settled on. I am going up REALLY slow because of how severe my anxiety and ocd is about medications, I’m not even at 20mg yet so I can’t say how much it’s worked. What I will say though is I haven’t had many side effects that are noticeable, and I think it has helped some because I am able to function and recognize the thoughts a little better than I have before. I would def talk to your psych and see if it’s a good fit for you. I know some other people that are one it and they love it and swear by it.
@ToriD Hi, curious to know how you’re doing on Vilazodone? Have been considering it but am concerned about sexual side effects.
@Anonymous Hi! I just started my second bottle of 20mg today, so I’ve been on 20mg for about a month now and I honestly love it. I had VERY mild side effects when starting but they went away within a few weeks. My worst was probably the insomnia but that also got better. I haven’t had any sexual side effects either. But to be honest, I’m feeling SO much better now that even if I had the sexual side effects I wouldn’t care. I communicated with my partner a lot about those concerns when I started and he was able to ease my mind a little bit too. Over all I definitely am having a great experience with it. It’s changed my life and has made me be able to function so much better. I’m not where I want to be, I’m still very much in the early days of remission but it has helped so much. The first week that I started feeling better I actually was concerned I was manic because I had forgotten what it was like to not feel miserable and have energy. I was not manic, just experiencing good feelings for the first time in a year lol
@ToriD Did you experience any jitters or racing thoughts on this ? Supposed to start but so traumatized by my lexapro experience
@Franphan Not with Vilazodone, no. In the beginning I had some tremors but I think that had to do more with how burnt out my system was. But it wasn’t bad enough where it bothered me to be honest. When I tried Zoloft it was wayyyy worse but I barely had any side effects from Vilazodone, and if I did it was worth it and I don’t remember it. I’ve been on it for almost a year now and it’s worked really well for me!
@ToriD Thank you SO much for the quick reply - I was prescribed a week ago and have yet to start 🙃
@Franphan I know it’s super scary, I was terrified when I first started. I also was soo ocd about it that I literally thought I was having side effects I wasn’t actually having lol it’s terrifying to try new meds especially if you had a bad experience (I had a HORRIBLE experience with Zoloft) but it was well worth it for me. I love my meds and I’m ok never getting off of them because I feel 10x better. I would definitely say give it a shot, it takes a while but you can definitely find the right meds that work for you. I personally love them lol
@ToriD How soon did you start seeing some relieve from your ocd/anxiety/mood
@Franphan I honestly was soooo deep in mental distress trenches it took me a few weeks, but I do remember the day and the moment I felt a sliver of ‘normal’ and it was incredible lol I would also say other people noticed a positive shift in me before I did, but I really felt it a few weeks after I started 20mg. I went up REALLY slow tho like I legit started with 5mg bc I was so scared of the medication.
@ToriD That’s exactly what I was prescribed ! 5mg
@Franphan The sooner you start the sooner you may start to feel better :)
@ToriD Thank you so so much ! It really is helpful - it sounds like I’m where you were at then - just trying to find that sliver of normalcy
@Franphan Just be patient and it’ll come! I literally didn’t think I’d ever get out of where I was but I am doing sooo much better. Good luck 🫶🏼
Thank you, so glad to hear it’s working for you! I really appreciate your insight!
