How can I afford NOCD therapy in the UK without insurance help?

Affording Therapy

Hi Guys, I was wondering if anyone has advice for affording NOCD therapy? I’m from the UK so cannot get this service on insurance and the therapy is costing me A LOT of money. I’ve contacted the billing team who have put me on a payment plan but this doesn’t make it any cheaper. They can’t do anything else for me to help so I’m stuck - I’m not in the right place to stop therapy but I also just cannot keep paying this money for it. Help!!

Hi Zoe, thanks so much. Wow yours sounds more expensive than mine, mine was also $100 for an hour at the start because I had an “offer” but then went to $170 for an hour. I’ve now had to make my appointments 45 mins long every 2 weeks instead of weekly but I think I may have to lessen it again to once a month maybe. It’s frustrating because on the website they say they’re affordable but in my experience it is far from it.

No one told me about 170 USD per session... That would be okay for me though, given the exchange rate... But well, maybe it is easily affordable for people with a very good income, but many people I know, who struggle with severe mental health issues for years, don't have very highly paid jobs, if they are able to work at all... Could you tell me, if you signed a contract with nocd? Or could you stop therapy at any time with more costs occuring?

@Zoë_84 I think it’s different depending on therapists I’m not sure… I haven’t signed a contract no, I can leave any time I believe.

@Ruthy98 Thanks for your response... Well, I asked for people who have experience in successfully treating POCD, maybe they are more expensive, as they have more work experience...

2 years ago they were 50 a week and I couldn't even afford that. Now their services are out of the question. It is sad for people like me who are on medicaid and can't work due to physical and mental disabilities.

Saving up and cutting back on going out to eat, getting Starbucks, cutting back on shopping for clothing, etc. Anything you don’t actually NEED, basically. My therapist is $130 an hour and I pay out of pocket, but Ive been recovered for 3 years, so I see him every so often; not even monthly anymore. I think it’s worth saving up and if you don’t already have a job, perhaps a part time one? NOCD is affordable even though it might not seem like it is. I know quite a few specialized therapists ranging from $250 up to $600 an hour.

@LilyCup It’s not affordable for a lot of people, just just the US. Unfortunately, mental health care is very expensive. I went into debt for my trauma therapy before I got insurance that covered it. Been there, went through it for ages. I still chose certain things over others though. Anything within my control, I’ll do it.

I get cutting back but littlerly what if you have no income because your mental health is so bad you cant work and you have physical disabilities on top of that?

I know very little about money/insurance stuff abroad, but if you are a student (college, university, grad school, etc) there may be a discount if you ask

Hi Ruthy, I don't have any advice and for me therapy with nocd, will also be very expensive. More over it is hard for me to get the information how much the therapist I chose will cost after the initial two months (I have been told, that it is 100 USD per session for the first two months) and afterwards between 200 and 330 USD, which is a huge range... I asked, if the therapist I chose costs 330 USD per session, if I could only have two sessions per month with her. If you can't afford the amount of sessions you have now, maybe ask for a reduction of the sessions, or for shorter and therefore cheaper sessions...

Insurance recommendations / can't afford therapy

Hello everyone I've been suffering with OCD since quarantine; so about 5-ish years. Im now in my first year in college and to be honest I have nothing. No insurance, no job, and no car. Recently ive been going through POCD and its really messing me up a lot. Im scared, worried, and confused because its the opposite of what I visualize myself and my future, which is having a nice house and a family. I recently found out about the NOCD app and I still learning about it. I obviously can't afford therapy at all but I heard that with insurance can cover most of it or even all of the cost of therapy. When I look into it, it turns out theres many insurance providers and I have no clue if there's any that covers therapy or even how to apply for it. So please, can anybody recommend any good insurance providers that can cover therapy?

Anybody doing NOCD therapy from another country?

My current therapist doesn't do erp and my syntoms aren't getting better, so I would like to change. I live in Italy and I struggle finding somebody who does erp. I've found a therapist but I'm scared she will not do erp properly and it will lead to nothing even this time. A part of me would love to try therapy with NOCD, however: - I don't know if therapy in a foreign language would be very effective - it's kinda expensive without insurance If somebody has tried it, would you like to share your experience with me? Thanks!! P.S: I'm really struggling making a decision but at the same time I'm afraid this could be part of "obsessing about obssesing"🫠 Like maybe I'm compulsively seeking therapy... but I just want to get better ugh

Is anyone else really in need of therapy right now but not able to afford it

Even with my insurance, my co-pay is still $90 per session which I think is really expensive. I was having a lot of really good improvement in exposure therapy but now I just can't book any more sessions because I can't afford the payments. I'm only 19 by the way, so please don't be too harsh on me, like is there any better alternatives that you guys have found because I found it extremely helpful and now I just can't afford the sessions
