Urge to clean the house
I’ve recently moved into my partner’s parent’s old house (they’ve just moved) and I’m really struggling with balancing sorting everything out, keeping things clean and tidy without caving into my OCD. For info, I’m not so much scared of getting sick, but mostly struggle with feelings of disgust if something is dirty. It’s the first time I’ve had to properly look after a home and be one of the people responsible for all of the cleaning. The house hasn’t been cleared out at all, so it doesn’t help feeling like I’m living in other people’s ‘mess’ - I’m finding the kitchen the most distressing, it’s quite old and with or without OCD it objectively needs sorting and cleaning. Does anyone have advice for staying on top of necessary chores as an adult without letting OCD flare up? It’s hard when I feel like tasks I ultimately need to do like hoovering are also triggering and strengthening my OCD - if it was anything else not giving in would reduce the anxiety over time, but I also want to live in a nice environment!! Any advice would be so appreciated.
