Medication Recommendations
Hello, Everyone. I feel as though I’ve maxed my ability to control my OCD beyond the point I’ve reached and am now interested in trying some medications. Any recommendations? Thanks.

You should speak to your doctor and therapist as they know you better than anyone one on here and they’re licensed/trained to do so.
@Nica Thank you for your recommendation, but I’m looking for peoples recommendations based on their own experiences.
@gstaiano Not the best thing to do as it’s different for everyone. Have fun though.
@Nica I imagine they’ll be speaking to their doctor anyway..if they plan on getting a prescription filled. I think they were just seeing what other people’s personal experiences were like. You don’t have to be sarcastic by saying “have fun though”
It definitely is a different experience for everyone. I’ve tried a few different SSRI’s, all have crappy side effects but I also can’t function without them, so…Paxil was most effective but worst side effects, Lexapro has had medium side effects and works ok, Prozac seemed to have the least side effects for me but also just okish for effectiveness. Lexapro is supposed to be the most tolerated in general though. I’m also on Buspirone and it helps some. I have Xanax for panicky times but I try to rarely use it. I have friends on Paxil, Lexapro, Buspirone and they all react differently so it is a personal experience but I get wanting to ask around first. I asked on here before trying CBD and Buspirone and the answers were helpful
Book an appointment with a psychiatrist (not a psychologist or counselor) as a psychiatrist can prescribe medication. SSRI meds can treat OCD. Each medication works different for everyone. I think a lot of people have success takings meds based on the feedback I’ve read on this app before. I’ve personally had a positive experience with Lexapro but after years of taking it, it doesn’t seem to work anymore (this isn’t uncommon) so I’m looking into switching to something else.. we’ll see what my psych suggests.
@Taylor10 differently* taking*
I was on prozak when I wqs younger and then switched to citalipram when I got older for sexual side effects, both worked great for my ocd but had low libido with both. I have now been lalexapro for about 5 months as I felt my ocd was getting bad. It's been okay but I didn't find it as good as citalipram so I'm debating going back to that. I just up my dose so we will see. I'm also on rispirdone but just .5mg to help.
I have a question My OCD has felt almost invisible the past few weeks and now that is starting to stress me out a lot. Right now I am at a point in my treatement where I was asked if I would like to take medication. I told my therapist this week that I would like to try the medication based on how miserable I feel in during OCD flare ups. But now my brain always tells me that I only go throught this treatement etc. to seek attention and that I am just dramatic and should be ashamed of myself for wanting to take this medication. So now I am doubting if I should take the medication or not. Any advice?
I’m positive I have OCD I don’t think get too many compulsions but the obsessions are what mess with me. I’ve recently started medication for depression that is as a side effects supposed to treat ocd but I’m not noticing anything with the symptoms. Also who do I go to to try to get an actual diagnosis?
Hey friends, I hope you all are well. I just wanted to check in and ask people's experiences about being on medication. I have had OCD pretty much my whole life, just got recently diagnosed 4 months ago and my therapist recommended that I get on meds for it so I have a psychiatrist appointment set up. I'm a little apprehensive about getting on them, but I've realized that I do have some sort of chemical imbalance in my brain that plays a part in my OCD and anxiety. I would love to hear anyones experiences or words of encouragement. Thank you, I hope you all are well.
