I had a mental breakdown again

They say money can’t buy happiness. Can therapy bring happiness? I’m sure a lot of you would agree that it does, must be nice. I live off of disability due to the severity of my ocd and simply can’t afford the classes you provide. the insurance my family can afford isn’t accepted by you guys… so say it without actually saying it.. I have been declined. I don’t think money or insurance or really ANYTHING should ever be an issue when it comes to something as important as mental health. It takes a lot for many to even open up about these struggles, that’s an obstacle in itself that we don’t need but have. Now we must also worry about money and insurance too? “I’ll get you better, but lemme see your wallet first🤑” I’m losing my mind. Literally. And the best anybody from NOCD can tell me is “good luck finding ERP!” I did find ERP. I just wasn’t allowed in the door.

I’m so sorry to hear that you can’t seek therapy due to finances. Some free things that can help you do ERP - blogs on Shala Nicely’s OCD website, The Noise in Your Head YouTube videos by Reid Wilson. IOCD has a lot of books listed on their website- some may be available as ebooks from a library.

I am also on disability due to OCD and have not been able to work for 5 years. My food OCD (ARFID) literally almost killed me - I was hospitalized when I got down to 89.2 lbs (I’m 5’5). But with ERP treatment I am a healthy weight (125-130 lbs), eat normally and only have one unmanageable OCD problem instead of several. I am no longer empty and depressed. I have a ways to go because the whole pandemic situation set me back but I have a decent life outside of my 4 hrs of OCD rituals each day (which was down to 1 hr pre-pandemic). I know I will get better. My point is when you hit bottom you can come up from there - you can too. Start with free self help OCD resources. And look at Rogers Behavioral Health - their site says they accept Medicare for inpatient services. I haven’t been through their inpatient program but their residential program saved my life. McClean Hospital also treats OCD and takes Medicare - they had mixed reviews when I looked into them in 2018. You may qualify for hospital level treatment covered by Medicare. It would at least get you going in the right direction.

@Erin P You’re honestly amazing for telling me all this, and you might have even saved my life. I want to give the people you mentioned above a shot, and I can’t keep saying “I’ve tried everything” when you just gave me a list of things I didn’t even know about. You are an absolute warrior. OCD tried to take the joy of food from you, but it didn’t know it was dealing with a savage😎 thank you so much. It wasn’t good enough beating your ocd? Now you’re gonna beat mine too??🥹♥️

@Erin P Thank you so much for your recommendations! I definitely need to check the people you mentioned. I’m currently on Medicaid… but I can’t work a job with my ocd as severe as it is right now, so the disability money I make won’t cover it. My life is ruined and nobody is saving me. That’s truly how I feel right now

I can’t afford ERP currently either. However, my main theme is religious ocd, and I found the Jaimie Eckert’s website scrupulosity.com and she provides weekly group sessions at only $50 a month. This I can afford (barely). Anyways, if you’re a Christian and that’s a big theme for you, I highly recommend it. Also, NOCD has free group sessions too. You just have to go to the actual website (not through the app to sign up for them.) Have you tried those? Praying for you!

I can’t have really good days

If I ever experience myself happy in life, my relationship, or friendships, OCD just finds a way to ruin it for me. As soon as life’s going good, it pops up into my head with all these intrusive thoughts that make it impossible to just relax and enjoy myself. My relationship has been improving, along with my mental health, and I have been feeling so in love and present with my partner. Everytime that happens OCD pops back up, with all these thoughts in my head like “What if I don’t really love my partner” “What if I’m not actually attracted to him” then it spirals to “What if I’m gay” “What if I don’t even like men” and it keeps going and going. Now, I can’t even hang around women friends without OCD popping up and saying “What if I’m attracted to them” “You have a crush on them”. I have always identified as straight, and I have always been boy obsessed growing up. I don’t want to be gay and lose everything I have with my boyfriend. That’s a huge fear that OCD is putting into my head. That I’m gay and I don’t actually love my partner and am attracted to him. I’m so upset. I just want to be happy in my relationship and at peace. And I want to be able to make female friends without OCD ruining it for me. :/ It’s like if I’m really stressed, my OCD gets really bad. And if I’m happy my OCD gets really bad. Unfortunately NOCD doesn’t accept my insurance, but I am meeting with a therapist I found on Rula who treats OCD, so I’m hoping that helps. I am also considering meds, because I can’t keep living like this. It’s been 25 years.

Venting and need some advice

I really do want to go to therapy or psychiatrist to diagnosed my OCD and give me a treatment but it costs a lot. OCD ruins my life and consumes my mind I wish I can take a break from my own brain. Having OCD but undiagnosed feels like I’m crazy because people think I made that up but they don’t know how I’m struggling since I was a kid. So anyone have an advice for treat OCD especially checking OCD that doesn’t cost money? because I don’t work yet..🥲

Getting through life when therapy is unaffordable

Hi everyone, I'm in a bit of a difficult situation and I wanted to ask for some advice. I recently finished my studies and I am living from my savings while I look for a job. However this process has turned out to be a lot more difficult and tedious than I expected. I suspect I have OCD as I relate to a lot of the experiences described here, in particular those corresponding to pure OCD. I have continuous intrusive thoughts about how what I'm currently doing is not enough, I constantly need to reassured that what I'm doing is right, with some magical thinking and concerns about my relationship sprinkled in. These intrusive thoughts have made it very difficult to make any significant progress in looking for something. Added to this I'm not even sure I have OCD as I don't have the money to afford therapy right now (my mind keeps telling me that it's silly to write this message because there's no way I have OCD). I live in Switzerland so as far as I understand my insurance won't cover sessions with NOCD. In conclusion I'm a bit stuck, therapy would help with finding a job but I need a job to get therapy. If any of you have had any similar experience and have some piece of advice it would be very welcome.
