i just got a fortune from a fortune cookie that read: âwe are what arises in our thoughtsâ are you serious?? đ why did i have to get that fortune!! itâs stressing me out i just wanted to throw that thing away!
Oh hell nah! If it makes you feel better, my little sister once got one that said "you're a happy man" and she was pissed đ I'm right there with you on spiraling from superstitious things, and would advise you to enjoy eating that cookie and throw away your fortune. We're not our thoughts, we're not even our actions. We're way more than that and it's beyond our comprehension. Sending you peace đ
@Aliciabernstein I had a fortune cookie that said âyou will get new clothesâ and I didnât get any, it was dinner time and I wasnât planning on shopping and had no need for new clothes. Just saying some of these cookies say BS predictions. Sometimes I do see things like these as a sign. But then I snap myself out of this and say Nahhh, not a sign, just a BS paper with a message. And I remind myself the world doesnât revolve around me. No one made this cookie intentionally for me.
Oh man! I feel you on this cause i experienced the exact same thing! I heard celebrities say ânow lets turn thoughts into realitiesâ and though they meant it in a good way, as a harm ocd sufferer I was just there drowning in anxiety :(
When I first started therapy and doing ERP it was kind of hard to comprehend what âembrace the uncertaintyâ meant. It took experience and practice to really get a better understanding. As time progressed, we started implementing uncertainty scripts that said, âI even convinced myself it was OCD, then ââ happened.â My point from all of this is that by doing ERP, I was able to learn to embrace the uncertainty, even about whether or not the thoughts were OCD. In this case, although potentially triggering, I believe itâs possible to embrace the uncertainty surrounding the piece of paper in the cookie or âfortune.â For me, it took a lot of vulnerability, willingness, and consistency in therapy and ERP. I highly suggest getting a therapist and trying ERP if you can!
Oh dear, worst fortune for anyone with OCD! We know that our thoughts are just thoughts, we donât have to believe other peoples words over what we know is true. Thinking something doesnât make it true. Try to be positive and use this as an exposure and preserve through this!
My dad once was lecturing me and said something along the lines of "if you keep thinking about it, It will become true." Little did he know I was in the biggest spiral of horrible thoughts at that time.

I just heard someone talk about how to shift your mindset for better health. I think itâs Law of Attraction stuff. They said âyou become your thoughtsâ. That triggered me because my thoughts are the very opposite of me. Has anyone else heard this saying before?
I just saw this video of this lady talking about coincidences and death. I know I shouldnât have read the comments but I did. It now has me freaked out that my thoughts are facts and will happen. How do people have gut instincts? It freaks me out. Has anyone ever feared this?
