Does anyone else here take a high dosage of Zoloft/Sertraline? I’ve been taking it for 9 years and have been at 350mg for a little over a year now. It feels really excessive, but when I’ve tried weaning off of it my obsessive compulsions intensify almost immediately. Just curious.
i didn’t know zoloft could be used to treat ocd! i’ve only seen it used for things like depression and pmdd, but admittedly it wasn’t very helpful for those things. maybe it works better for anxiety related stuff like ocd🤔
@KazePeriwinkle The first psychiatrist I saw about my OCD (9 years ago) prescribed it and it helped almost immediately (even though I was told it could be a few weeks until it’s effective.) I felt like my life was unbearable before the Zoloft, so I know it helps me! Now that I’m on such a high dose I’m considering other options. I just had my second kid, so I know some of what I’m feeling is likely postpartum acting up my symptoms, but I do want to look at other options. I’ve only ever been on Zoloft, and it’s one of those drugs that loses effectiveness the longer you take it (hence why I’m at 350mg). 🙃

Wait whaaat. I was told by my psychiatrist that 200mg is the maximum dose (which is where I’m at rn). I’ve been taking Zoloft on and off of throughout the years but it has been working well for me too!
@blazed I was told originally when I was prescribed it that 200 was the highest. But after trying and failing to wean off of it, and the 200s not helping as much, my dosage was increased. I think my current psychiatrist called it a super dosage. It was difficult getting my insurance to approve the amount, and my pharmacy tech sister said she hardly ever has seen one that high. I want to say I was told I could increase it again if needed, but can’t remember what the super dosage limit is.
I was on 300mg for maybe a year. It helped and eventually I tapered off of it. I gradually started experiencing symptoms again, had a lapse and now am back on at 150mg. It seems when prescribed for OCD that psychiatrists prescribe a high dose.
@Anonymous Is the 150mg helping? Or do you think you’ll end up at 300mg again? I was good at 250mg for a long time and then when I tried to wean off I immediately ended up back at that amount, and after having kids ended up increasing it to where I’m at now.

I was immediately put of 40mg of celexa instead of starting at 10mg and my psychiatrist said "I'm going to call you in nausea meds because I'd rather you be sick than keep dealing with the ocd" let me tell you those first 2 weeks were miserable for my stomach but it has helped a lot, I have been told that 60 mg of celexa will be prescribed "off label" for ocd. I see my psychiatrist again on Thursday.
@Amandaarene I’ve never heard of Celexa helping. I might need to talk with my psychiatrist about that. I’m glad to hear you’re having good results!
