Rabbit hole OCD
When I got my way into recovery, one of the things was to identify thoughts as “OCD thoughts “ But it was not long until I realised that I was making this into a compulsion! So I get a thought, I get anxious, and I say, “oh it’s just OCD “, then I expect it to go away, but it just won’t. The mistake I’m doing here is rather than stay with the anxiety and the thoughts, I want to make it go away (or control the thoughts) which is a compulsion in hiding You see the difference? Compulsion: Doing something to make your thoughts/anxiety go away. ERP: Doing an exercise to stay comfortable with your thoughts and emotions without wanting them to go away. The difference is subtle, but when you don’t know the difference, you end up in the rabbit hole, going round and round. Anyone else has this experience? Everyday with OCD seems to be a learning experience
