Medication

I take Lexapro and it was a game changer for me. I started about 3 years ago. I started with 5mg for 2 weeks and then 10mg for a month. When I first started the anxiety increased. This is normal for Lexapro. Give it time. I’m on 25mg now and it changed so much for the better. I can pass intrusive thoughts easier and I seem to be more carefree in general and not my typical neurotic self. Good luck.

I’m having this same struggle right now. Ocd is really bad and I’m desperate but I’ve never taken any long term medication. What I’ve found helpful so far is asking anyone I know who has taken them for their personal experiences with it and speaking to as many doctors as possible until your feel comfortable enough to make a decision. Doesn’t matter how much you “bother” people or doctors or whoever, just take your time with it. Knowledge is power xx

Hi:) I know it’s really scary to start taking medicine for mental health, but I believe it’s worth the try! I like to imagine when I’m stressed about a situation the worst thing that could happen so that I can put things into perspective. The worst thing that could happen is it doesn’t work or it makes your symptoms worse for a day or two and then you simply stop taking it and try again or try a new one! You’re so strong and you have gotten this far so either way know you will be okay. And stay in communication with friends family and your doctor to update of any and all symptoms. Take it the right way (the proper dosage, at the right time, and monitor yourself closely) Trust in yourself and your doctors that if you got to the point of getting it prescribed it might be beneficial to at least give it a try! Try to think of also the best case scenarios, what if it works really well and you feel relieved of symptoms that will definitely be worth it!! Sometimes we have to take a jump into the unknown and trust the process. One of my favorite quotes “everything will be okay in the end, if it’s not okay, it’s not the end”. I’ve been on Lexapro for almost two years now and it helped a lot, but now im starting to feel not as much relief so I’m starting Prozac tomorrow. Im also really nervous, but I know if it doesn’t work, there are other options for me to try!

I was scared to take medicine too and decided to go with a small dose and gradually worked up and over time I got over my fear and feel so much better now.

Did you guys notice any side effects from any of the medicines?? Any weight gain etc? Thanks so much

Not really for me either. Main things were the 2ish weeks of heightened anxiety and then it started decreasing rapidly. No weight gain or anything else for me.
