It feels very in it and very strong need to get rid of it and I cant escape it. I feel i won t ever be able to recover or that it will take so long and be a horribly hard recovery. If anyone has some tips or suggestions would be great to have some support it feels like no one undertands.
It takes time, better than not trying at all. This isn’t a forever. But it will be worth all the ERP hours you will put in. You will have small victories, then some setbacks and then joyous outcomes and breakthroughs, fascinating realizations and supportive discussions as well as interesting inspiring viewpoints all happening as you journey through. The past 10 months have been the hardest I have ever walked through. I thought I was going to lose my mind. Headaches, racing thoughts, FEAR and anxiety like never before… Mark DeJesus’ books, Ali Greymond videos on YouTube, Reid Wilson PhD, NOCD therapy and leaning into my faith have been helping me to breakthrough to peace of mind recently (Nov. 27!!) 1. It is NOT about content of scary thoughts. Anybody can think anything OCD attached fear and doubt to a thought that is against your values and the OCD hell started… 2. It is about facing fear and doubt from a place of strength - fear and doubt do not come from you. (The thought did not come from you, and fear did not come from you) 3. Fear and doubt feed on compulsions. OCD picks on something you care about to get reaction…Stop compulsions, stop OCD…. So, if your content is not you, then you can sit through fear/doubt because it is just broken amygdala making you feel it is real… when it is not. Picture a person with contamination OCD. They are scared about touching a door (let’s say the door was just wiped down). Fear overtakes them doubt… the door is fine so content is not the problem… the person’s interpretation of fear/doubt is. By touching the door and living thru the fear, they are showing OCD they are on to the lie. No matter what doubt and fear say… the subject matter is not personal to you.
Hey! I started to notice a change in my OCD once I stop trying to escape it. It help to think about ocd this way, our brain is an organ just like our heart and our kidneys with its very own function, to warn us about dangers, the ocd has our brain giving us falls signals, and just because the signal is their doesn’t mean it’s true, we get to decide if we value that warning. Our brain throwing thoughts is simply the brain saying, “let’s see if this is dangerous… what if we jump off the bridge”, “it has to feel like this if not it’s wrong”, when we start to panic to question our thoughts or feelings , to justify thoughts or feelings , to try to escape them, it confirms to our brain that is dangerous, so the brain continues to throw the thoughts to eliminate “danger”. So instead of questioning our thoughts or our brain just agreeing with it, allowing the fear to be there, feeling like we need to escape but not actually try to, our brain reads that as less dangerous until eventually the thoughts are reduce or they just simply don’t cause that distress. (You probably already know this). Our intrusive thoughts will come and go, but our values stay. Another thing that I have learned through recovery is that things have to get bad before they get better. Remember you are more capable and can handle more than what OCD says you can.
Im super scared that i wont recover it's killing me rn
I need a different perspective on this. I feel like I'm being run through the ringer. I'm doing what I can to avoid reassurance and not avoid triggers but I get triggered every day. I'm trying so hard to sit with the panic and the horror but it's so hard. It gets to the point I feel physically sick. Is there anything that I can do to help with this? I feel alone. I don't feel strong, I feel like a punching bag. Why is this so hard to master? I really want to know it gets easier. I've been suffering from POCD that has evolved and gotten worse and worse over the past eight months that has been torturing me multiple times on a daily basis and I feel like I'm drowning. I want to run away and hide because my life feel like it's seconds from being ruined. Please, please tell me this gets easier. That this ERP therapy will stop making me feel like I'm dying. The small moments of victory feel so brief only for me to get hit with another wave. There is so much uncertainty over such a horrific thing I feel ill. I feel afraid to be alone with my mind. Please if anyone out there can please give me tips on how to handle ERP. One moment I think I'm finally beating this thing and the next it's got me pinned and I'm terrified my life will be ruined. I want my peace back, I need help and I'm doing everything I can to resist compulsions but I feel so alone and dirty and disgusting. Please help me. Thank you for any advice 💕
My harm theme started 8 months ago and has gradually gotten worse. I have a few days/ weeks that are good and then will quickly go back to a week of severe anxiousness. Since this started I have hardly felt like myself. I realize recovery will not happen overnight and is not linear. My question while in recovery does it take awhile to feel like your self again? I am currently in an anxious spiral and just finding it hard to believe I will ever feel normal again. Any recovery stories would be great.
