Feeling utterly hopeless at the moment š Iāll have hours in a day where Iām able to resist compulsions and live a ānormalā life. Then one little thing will cause me to have a complete meltdown and be unable to function. I feel like Iām never going to get better
I've felt like that many times in the past. I can distinctly remember saying those exact words. Usually the before that the words what if where in there too. What if I never get better. No guarantees, but with work you can improve and get better. If you go a whole morning without doing a compulsion see that as a success even if you do one later one. Don't try to be perfect. You are gonna have set backs. I "beat" ocd and had almost 12 years of no symptoms and then had a set back. I went 18 months of good recovery before having a minor blip that I am working through. Ups and downs. You can do it just do erp, do the work, embrace the shit so to speak, and don't best yourself up when you have a setback. If you don't have one, get a good therapist. That's where I have been lucky in all my episodes.
It will happen. Theyāre momentary lapses. The fact that weāve worked through them and continue to work through them is what matters. We are and life is so much more than our OCD. I know how hopeless it can feel in the moment and how helpless it makes you feel. Just know you arenāt alone.
I have said those words many times before. I can tell you from personal experience it gets better. I would wake up every morning and throw up as soon as I got up, my stomach would churn and my ocd thoughts and compulsions would take over and it would repeat. It physically made me sick. But it does get better. you may not think so now, and thatās okay. Take it day by day. Having hours a day is better than not having any resistance. Itās hard to not give in, but you are doing it. You have done it. You are doing great! You are human. I am proud of you. :)
Youāre so strong, this is not easy. The way this disorder can put a hold on what we love and who we want to be is so scary. But just remember your compulsions are a symptom of OCD, they do not define you!!! Compulsions do not keep us safe they keep us scared, stuck and uncertain. Give yourself grace, you deserve it
Iām having a meltdown! Help! I have been reducing my reassurance lately. I went from 250 to now like 20 times. Huge jump in last month. But I feel absolutely awful still because itās ERP and it gets worse before you get better. Iām so on edge so the slightest things trigger me. Iāve been having a horrible meltdown for an hour screaming at top of my lungs. I just want ERP TO Work!!! Iām putting in so much effort. I believe Iām getting closer but these meltdowns are horrible. Hopefully itās a good sign that erp is working because the ocd is mad. Anyone else experience this in ERP? Itās such a huge change and I want my life back so bad! During this meltdown, my ocd has told me that Iām never going to get better and Iām scared.
It always happens to me where I have 2 really good weeks of anxiety free days where I donāt miss any days of work.. then I feel proud of myself for not missing work and having good weeks. Then this week Iāve missed 2 days of work and canāt get myself to get dressed and do anything. It feels so hopeless. Just when I think Iām doing better I have a really rough week
Does anyone else feel like they are getting worse? I started here a couple months ago doing ERP, but I feel like my OCD is getting way worse and am hardly able to function properly most days without panic or anxiety attacks ā¦. I try response therapy, but it hasnāt worked for me. Iām not sure what to do going forward. Any suggestions?
