Struggling with religious OCD and fear of devil possession; what can I do?

I've struggled with this theme and still do from time to time. Personally, I just ask God for protection and go about my day. This is just another OCD theme, nothing more.

i’ve been experiencing this theme a lot lately and it’s such an absurd and irrational one to the point where it’s kind of hard to rationalize and move on from. it’s very scary!! especially as someone who doesn’t have a particularly strong relationship with god, it can be really hard. just remember that this is just a theme of your ocd and that you are safe <33

I used to struggle with this fear. I recently published a book called "Waging War Against OCD - A Christian Approach to Victory." You can see more details at WagingWarAgainstOCD.com where I address several issues but not this one in particular. From a theological standpoint, if you are a Christian then the Holy Spirit indwells you, so Satan cannot indwell you as well. Additionally, Romans 8:38-39 is helpful b/c it is so all encompassing. IT reads: For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Also, identity in Christ is so powerful....because we are in Christ, He is in us....so the level of protection is so amazing. Satan has been defeated, all he can do is roar at us and try to terrify us - but he is defeated. OCD acts in the very same way....it tries to terrify us. I love this quote from Hannah Whitall Smith b/c it is a great description of how OCD and Satan bother us: It seems hardly worthwhile to say that temptation is not sin, and yet much distress arises from not understanding this fact. The very suggestion of wrong seems to bring pollution with it; and the poor tempted soul begins to feel as if it must be very bad indeed, and very far off from God, to have had such thoughts and suggestions. It is as though a burglar should break into a man’s house to steal, and, when the master of the house begins to resist him and to drive him out, should turn round and accuse the owner of being himself the thief. It is the enemy’s grand ruse for entrapping us. He comes and whispers suggestions of evil to us, – doubts, blasphemies, jealousies, envyings, and pride, and then turns round and says, “Oh, how wicked you must be to think of such things! It is very plain that you are not trusting the Lord; for if you had been, it would have been impossible for these things to have entered your heart.” This reasoning sounds so very plausible that we often accept it as true, and so come under condemnation, and are filled with discouragement.

I had this one really bad when I was in college. Honestly the only thing that helped me was when I went back on my meds (Paxil at the time). I was afraid to think these thoughts to make them come true so of course I thought them more. Are you in therapy at the moment?
