Hi lately I’ve been feeling like I’m getting out of control with my POCD and that I should have the police know that I am struggling with this type of ocd I know I’m not going to do this but I’m becoming very disoriented.
You’ve just confessed here, is that enough for you? No… because they’re intrusive thoughts and confessing will never fix anything. Everyone has intrusive thoughts, no need to confess. You are not your thoughts. You are not your thoughts. You are not your thoughts.
@Iwillsurvive You are right I’ve learned confessing is just another part of the condition and it doesn’t help long term at all
Very sorry you’re going through this. Telling the police or anyone for that matter would be giving into a confession compulsion. I urge you to speak with an ERP therapist because it helps tremendously. The urge to confess will make matters worse and never be good enough. You’ll just want to tell more and more people, but it will never help. Thoughts aren’t illegal and with this theme it will warp all your memories and start making you question everything. It’s really horrible but remember, if you feel that it’s urgent and needs to be addressed at this very moment, it’s more than likely OCD. Please work with a therapist and avoid confessing to anyone. Something you could do is get support from a family or friend and let them know you’re struggling. Having someone to be there for you helps a lot. OCD therapists are trained to handle this and I never thought ERP would work until it did for me.

@Anonymous You are never alone, don’t give up. There’s different outlets to get help and start getting your life back. OCD has taken so much from you, it might seem like the theme will never end, but it does and an OCD therapist can help.
I'm really sorry to hear that you're going through such a tough time with your POCD right now; I can empathize because I also struggled with feeling out of control when my OCD was at its worst. Remember, your OCD does not define you and these intrusive thoughts are just that–thoughts. You reaching out and sharing your feelings says a lot about your strength and determination to get a handle on this. Something that's made a huge difference to me when I've felt really stuck with my OCD is an AI OCD therapy tool I came across via my OCD support group - it's called "unstuck"(unstuckmyocd.com/try). I wish someone had told me about this earlier because it's been a great aid. As you're dealing with POCD which is tending to make you feel disoriented, "unstuck" could be particularly useful for you; it provides customized, step-by-step guidance to help manage when OCD gets really tough, almost like having an OCD therapist in your pocket. I just read a horror story about someone with POCD revealing their thoughts to people and getting shunned and now im getting anxious😭. I had wanted to tell a few of my loved ones about it in a very careful way, but now am not sure if it is a good idea (one works in mental health and another does have severe mental illness). I genuinely wonder if me doing this would be exposure or be compulsive or if it’s a bad idea overall
I haven’t been diagnosed yet but I honestly think I have POCD. I have been getting a lot of images or thoughts of children lately, like sexually too and it’s been very disturbing. The thoughts have been nonstop. I have three nephews at home and I’m scared that if I look at them for too long or make eye contact, then that means I’m attracted to them. I have been avoiding them for the past few days and when I hung out with my friend the other day, we were talking about our future and it made me feel so anxious and sad and guilty because of these thoughts I’ve been having. I have to keep telling myself that I know I don’t feel attracted to them in any way but then the question pops up, like “are you really sure about that?” I almost committed a few days ago because of it and the only reason I didn’t was because I didn’t want to leave my mom or my sister. I did some self harm too and I have to keep reminding myself that if I really felt that way towards kids, then I wouldn’t be going through this much. I feel so guilty because I’ve broken down in front of my mom and she keeps asking what’s wrong but I feel like I can’t tell her. Yesterday and today though, I feel really out of place because I feel like I can’t feel anything when the thoughts come up and I don’t know if that’s normal. Does that mean I’m actually that kind of person? It genuinely scares me to even think about.
Suffering from POCD and it's really making me considering not being here anymore. This isn't who I am and I don't understand why this is happening to me. Can someone give me some advice or support. Thank you...
