ocd vs hoarding

i currently live with my bf and his family while we look for a home, and his dad is a hoarder (really bad) we have managed to deep clean the kitchen and the toilets as well (our room was already clean) but the one area that no matter what gets so hoarded is the living room. i cleaned behind the couch today and i was so shocked at how much was there. i literally cant believe my father in law lives like this and doesn’t care about it my bf calls him out very often and he contributes a fuck ton with the cleaning, so I’m grateful for that, but he is sick and tired of this as well and we honestly dont know what to do because every time we talk to him its pointless also he smokes in the house and everyone literally screams at him everytime he does it but he just doesnt care

now this is just common sense but i have the urge to deep clean everything (obviously) and sometimes its so overwhelming

the house was livable before and it still is but i just want to see it perfectly clean with no hoarding

Your going to clash. Bottom line because his hoarding is just different type OCD. I am ADHD and OCD. My mother is a perfectionist OCD type and we clashed horribly and she could yell at me and go off on me all she wanted but my brain just wasn’t getting it. I didn’t know I had ADHD at the time. I knew I didn’t want to upset anyone and wished I could just do and be what made her happy which is basically a house you could eat off the floors so clean. I never measured up and who knows maybe that just created nothing but conflict. Your OCD is more acceptable in our society. His OCD comes with a lot of stigma. So, all I can say is getting upset and angry at him isn’t going to do anything but make it worst.

people without ocd

WHY is it so hard to explain ocd to someone without it? it’s like they see it as a joke/exaggeration and it’s just exhausting. people act like ocd is just organization or cleaning or whatever. while ocd can affect that it’s SO much more than that. idk

My partners mad because of my OCD

Last night I was staying at my boyfriend’s house and couldn’t sleep. I felt like i desperately needed to go back to my parents and clean and organize my room. This has happened a few times before when I was staying at his place. Since then he’s been very upset with me. Does anyone else’s partner do this? Any advice? It’s been hard. He’s made me feel so shameful for having OCD. As if it’s not tough enough /:

Dad with pocd

Please read this. I’ve had ocd pretty much a lot of my life but never knew what it was until my senior year of highschool. I’m 21 with 2 kids and i believe i’ve had pocd a little bit before my daughter was born (which was 8 months ago). It made me start looking at all kids differently and i hate it. But it really started triggering me about 3 months ago. I’ve been thinking if i’d intentionally touched or harmed my kids the wrong way, or any kids for that matter. This started giving me false memories (or at least hope they are). I’ve been having panic attacks, yelling at myself, punching walls, praying, and even thoughts of ending my own life. I grew up in a severe toxic household throughout my childhood and teenage life. I’ve never wished that on my kids since i became a dad. I wanna give them the life i never got. I look back my photos of my children and i feel like i’m a complete fraud of a dad. I cannot look at my kids or be around them a lot of times. I can’t hold my daughter right. I can’t change their diaper when they need it. Even my son came and was hugging on me the other night while i was watching tv and i acted like a stranger to him. I can very little do this stuff sometimes because it’s either i get relief or i push my thoughts as far back as i can. I get scared if i did something to not just my kids, but any other kids in the past. I have such a a great life and such a beautiful family. It was hard and stressful at first being young with a family but i couldn’t be more thankful at all for them. I’m just so lost and stressed right now that i just don’t know what to do anymore
