My OCD is extremely debilitating, coupled along with generalized anxiety disorder. I can’t hold down a job, just had to let go of my last job. I can barely function on a regular basis and I deal with “quasi-hallucinations”, which yes is a part of OCD! We need to advocate for SSI, seriously!
You can apply but it has to be EXTREME. I only know of one person who got it and she has a chip in her brain for OCD and she does rituals most of the day. She has a host of other mental illnesses and physical ailments as well, so it’s technically not just for OCD but for all of it.

@Rebecca p Rebecca… have you dealt with the “quasi hallucinations” of OCD? The thoughts are terrible but the quasi hallucinations are the most difficult for me. I hate it so bad and wish it’s just go away. I deal with the idea of hearing things or like distant voices. My psychiatrist and therapist say’s it’s intrusive thoughts?! Not schizophrenia though I’m convinced it is.
Yes I have had and sometimes still do have hallucinations. It took a very long time to get my ocd diagnosed. I was originally diagnosed with a personality disorder and psychotic disorder. My ocd psychiatrist thinks that my hallucinations are ocd. It is hard to work with those symptoms and I also ruminate a lot. I also needed constant reassuring. I am constantly doubting that it's ocd but I know it is.. also you can apply for ssi. Talk to your doctor and therapist and make an appointment with social security..
Can OCD make you go crazy or can it just mock symptoms of losing your mind? Weird question I know. I have just been struggling really bad lately and wondering if it’s something more then OCD.
Just applied for a new job and at the end they asked if I had any disabilities and they listed a few :Use of Wheelchair, Autism, Blindness, Deafness, and then they listed PTSD and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I about died. I didn’t know why it hurts to think of OCD as a disability, but it just does. It hurts like it means I don’t deserve a high paying job. Just thinking about something so personal having to be on file: I have a broken brain. It’s a disgusting feeling. I want to rip this out of me. Is this how the world sees us? Disabled?
So my husband has been off work a couple of months due to me having some pretty severe health problems, not associated with OCD. His Family medical leave has run out and he is returning to work. I’ve been struggling with this because when he’s home my OCD is non existent. When he’s here I feel safe, and I don’t fear because he’s here with me and I feel like he would stop me from losing it if I were to. My recent fear is that when he goes back to work he won’t be here to stop me if I were to lose my mind, I get thoughts of what if I lose my mind, what if I run out in traffic, what of I go to a neighbors house and try to harm someone. I NEVER want to do anything like that, but the thought and fear of it and the urges are very REAL! I know I’m supposed to sit with the uncomfortable thoughts, feelings and urges but my god that’s impossible for me, I go straight into panic attacks and freak out! I’m doing ERP but I’m in the very beginning stages of it, and I’m really struggling to cope. My fear is I’ll forever be debilitated by this and it will cause my husband to lose his job, and we will lose everything. Can anyone help me to find extra resources on how to cope and deal with this, or any hope? I would greatly appreciate it. This is the WORST condition to ever have to deal with. :(
