How to forgive myself?
My real event went from the age range of 12-17 and since it feels so recent I am struggling to forgive myself and move on. I went into more detail in my other post if you’re curious. The guilt and shame I feel for things I did as a child is ruining my life at this point.
im struggling with things i did around that age too and i know its hard but you need to forgive yourself as at those ages your still really a kid and learning about things and trying to work the world out so you shouldn’t hold ANYTHING that happened against you and from what i saw on your other post it was anime that you watched and it’s not real it was a fantasy, so i think you deserve to move on and live your life. YOU ARE NEVER ALONE
I felt very guilty for years because of some of my actions as a 13 year old but I have since overcome that and it hasn’t bothered me in a long time. Progress is definitely possible just keep trying your best

@Lexandocd It was a gradual process and there wasn’t a single thing I did that made it happen. One thing that helped was leaning into relationships with other people and trying to be close and open with them even when I felt like I didn’t deserve to be. I read some good books too, Crime and Punishment is one that is kind of hard to read but has some really powerful stuff about guilt and atonement. And I think just making the choice that I wanted to forgive myself was an important starting point. OCD can make the process very difficult, doing ERP exposures is something that can help a lot too.
How can I forgive myself for the mistakes I made as a teenager (maybe 15 through 18 or 19 I don’t remember exactly) when at the time I had no bad intentions I just didn’t understand what I was getting into? How can I forgive myself for being so dumb? I should of known. But unfortunately now dealing with real event and other themes trying to find “proof” it’s so exhausting and unsettling especially when the worst case scenario about my self and my past comes up literally every day and I have to fight it with “maybe, maybe not”…when will it ever go away. Do I even deserve for it to go away? No matter who I’ve told whether it was a parent or a therapist they all say the same thing…….let it go……..how am I supposed to do that. I want to do great things in life. I want to make up for all I have done wrong. I want to help people but I can’t even help myself. I hate myself. I don’t even like myself at all. I would go back in a heartbeat. But I can’t. I’m stuck in this mental hell. Will I ever be ok again…….
I did something 5-6 years ago when I was barely an adult, and I know it was stupid, but I know I can never take it back, and I hate myself everyday for it. I feel like I can’t move forward in life because I can’t forgive myself and honestly sometimes don’t even want people to see I exist. I haven’t done that same thing in years but I still see myself as a horrible person. How do I move forward. I’ve been in therapy since I was 19 and also have extreme extreme checking ocd and it hasn’t helped but this rumination has been a big problem lately.
I have compulsions I did 10 years ago because of my pocd that still haunt me today. How do I forgive myself and move on?
