I completed reading my first ever book.

I know this may be a trivial achievement for some but for me this is a massive deal, and I can honestly say I'm proud of myself as I lay here crying tears of happiness like an absolute baby. Not once in my life have I ever been able to read more than a few sentences of a book before the noise of my mind made it impossible to continue. I felt as if reading was like counting sheep and would tire so easily before. Now, I've finished reading a book which I would've considered impossible before but this just shows how far I've come. This is proof my hard work paid off and I've gained something I believed I'd be excluded from enjoying for the entirety of my life. Thank you honestly to all those who helped me on here during my recovery journey. Its almost unfathomable that I would be so wholly happy over something like this. You're all amazing

I remember teachers, especially when in my teenage years making me feel I was stupid for not being able to focus, or do homework, or for sleeping in class because the noise drowned out my thoughts and I was too exhausted from being awake all night arguing (ruminating) whilst having a screaming match with the demons in my head (harm ocd). I wasn't dumb, my mind was just too busy fighting a war they knew nothing of. I feel relief but sad that I believed them for so many years

Congratulations! So many people take things like this for granted. Those without this disorder may never truly understand how much of an accomplishment it is to be able to do something completely normal.

Read this for encouragement

Hi all!! It's been a while since I've been on here and I just want to say everybody can do this. When I was diagnosed with ocd and specifically so-ocd I thought oh lord I'm lying to myself and my sexuality. No! I've always been straight and will be!! Anyway, what I have learned is to let thought be a thought (that is harder than it seems). But if you try to not force the thought and let it leave when you want and show the thoughts that you are unbothered things will become easier. But today I have the realization that I no longer have the urge to figure it out because I do know who I am and that these thoughts are not of me. I no longer feel like I am lying to myself and I feel more and more like my old self. Anyway, if you have read all the way here just know you got this I'm proud and I feel myself beating ocd every day. You will have your down days and that's ok just get back up and keep moving forward. Love you all❤️

Progress

I’ve completed 11 sessions so far and I can honestly see progress. I’m not back to my “normal” self but I’m gaining parts of my life and my personality back. I never knew I had OCD. I always attributed things to anxiety. Being diagnosed let me know I’m not alone, I’m not crazy, and that there’s help for me. I have a long list of OCD subtypes. As you can imagine, the thoughts and images in my head were extremely distressing and I was concerned for my quality of life and my sanity. 11 sessions in and I’m able to watch shows and movies without being scared I’ll see a trigger, I can practice exposures and navigate through my obsessions better, and I’m finding joy in the little moments in life. I used to avoid so many things and people because I was scared I’d have intrusive thoughts. I still struggle with intrusive thoughts every single day. Some days and even weeks are bad and I struggle more than usual. I have mood swings, extreme irritability, and even sometimes experiencing depersonalization. Sometimes I just plain out feel uncomfortable and weird. But like my therapist said, progress is not linear. I’m learning to count my wins instead of always counting my losses. I’m learning to enjoy the little bits of life that are ok, and I feel proud when I get through hard moments. I’m excited for the future. I’m excited to see how much I progress. Sometimes I’m still scared but I know that’s my OCD trying to get me to quit because we both know this ERP therapy is helping. If you’re struggling, please seek help. It does get better. I wanted to quit after doing my first exposure. I’m so happy I didn’t. And on hard days when I want to give up, I know this is what I’m supposed to be doing to help myself.

Telling my friends I have POCD

So today was great I went out and had a good time went to the mall and just chilled for a bit. Then went to see my friends and I decided to tell them what I go through on a daily basis with OCD and they excepted me with open arms. But I do feel that stuff might change but it was progress and I'm proud of myself I just couldn't keep it in anymore and I did it. I hope anyone going through any type of OCD is able to tell friends and family and hopes of more positive outlook. I'm proud each and every one of us who is going through this. Love yall
