Hey so lately I've been thinking along the line of the theme of ocd of 'what if I was to shout something inappropriate out" only this is what if I was to text someone something inappropriate please help me somebody it's causing me to panic.
Hello, OCD tends to focus on areas where people feel uncertain. Sometimes those obsessions can be focused on the fear of losing control and doing something you might regret, like texting something inappropriate. At NOCD we provide ERP, a style of therapy that is used to treat OCD. This type of therapy focuses on sitting with feared outcomes while resisting the urge to engage in compulsions. Sounds like an ocd intrusive urge/thought. This is very common I’ve heard this so many times and I’ve experienced it myself. This is called “thought-action fusion” where we imagine that if we have the thought, that means it will come true (magical thinking). Do ERP around this and let those intrusive thoughts & urges pass on their own. Don’t try to push them away, it makes ocd more aggressive when you show fear

@Anonymous Sure thing! :) Magical thinking is another theme of OCD used to categorize often irrational beliefs that your thoughts or actions can cause real life consequences, such as thought-action fusion. The thoughts can sometimes be superstitious such as “Step on a crack, break your mother’s back” and so ppl have a ritual of avoiding stepping on cracks. Some ppl fear that if they have a nightmare, that will come true in reality. Others believe that say if they tap a certain way, it will prevent planes from falling. In your case, you believe that if you have a thought, it’s more likely to come true. But I can think in my head or even say out loud: “I hope my ceiling falls down on me right now! Please fall, I’m begging.” But in reality, nothing happened whether I thought that phrase or said it. For ERP, you could practice saying “I hope I write something horrible. That would cause some interesting gossip since life has been pretty boring recently!” 😄 Add some humor to make it less scary (cognitive defusion technique). Maybe as an exposure, even make a word doc (that only you will see) and write inappropriate words on it
@OneDayAtATimee - Makes sense I've definitely had this one I had when I was young was being in NYC I'd fear the massive sky scraper building would suddenly fall on me. I honestly think 9/11 probably triggered those thoughts.
@Anonymous I totally relate! :O You just reminded me, 9/11 triggered a lot of thoughts for me too, years ago back when I had harm Ocd. Big events like that will definitely do that to ya!
@OneDayAtATimee - Very true I almost want to call it third hand trauma. I call it that cause first hand trauma would be having been at the scene when it happened and having survived it, second hand having been having lost a loved one or friend to it, and third hand having been the rest of us who remember the tragedy of that day.

I’ve had many types of OCD, but I gained control over them over the years, but a new one has started to arise. Do y’all ever have scary thoughts about something you might do? Recently I’ll get extremely uncomfortable no matter where I am because I can’t stop thinking about “what if I screamed really loud in my lecture class tomorrow?” And other stupid stuff like that. Also, this one is kind of funny, but sometimes when I use the bathroom I pause before because I think “what if I’m actually in class right now?” I also cannot control the thoughts about past embarrassing moments. I know everyone does, but I will become visibly uncomfortable and harp on something from years ago. This happens all throughout the day. Also, does anyone else do things that resemble tics when you get these thoughts. Like when they happen I’ll curse under my breath or like jerk my head a little bit. When I’m in public I keep it low key but when I’m alone sometimes I’ll physically get up and pace or something when those thoughts happen. Just curious if anyone has had these experiences
Basically I had a bad violent intruisve thought and I was scrolling through instagram story and on the chat box underneath my mind made me write it down on the reply box but I didn’t send it I wrote it down then got rid of it liked cleared it now I’m like why did my mind make me write that . ! Now I’m like omg why did I write that will anything happen or am I overthinking?
I’ve been triggered so bad this week I’ve had bad anxiety and feel depression coming on. Last night I had a thought oh let’s plan it and I immediately thought why would I think that and started crying bad. I’ve had these thoughts for 7 months I really don’t know why I’m having these thoughts, if I knew I would work on it. Like people say has something happened in your life for you to have these thoughts and nothing has happened, it all started off from what if thoughts , like “what if I’m a psycho” because I saw this fb post saying introverts are more likely to become psychopaths and it all spiralled from there I started getting thoughts about harm towards others and myself. What do you think guys should I treat it like ocd or do you think there’s something seriously wrong with me.
