Mom has a chronic gossiping issue

I’m struggling financially after moving out of my house to escape literal hell. I’m so paranoid and particular about them(my family) knowing what’s going on in my life. Like it has to look perfect so they feel terrible knowing how they treated me. A letter was mailed to my moms house and she opened it and it was a letter about things I need to pay back to companies. She sent me a full on picture of what was inside the letter and asked me if I wanted it. I just know she’s showing it to the rest of my family and her friends gossiping, it’s what she’s goes with every thing that happens to me. I hate it so much and I left home to escape it. But in weird ways the universe keeps tying us together and it makes me feel the same shame I felt before I left. On a positive note I’ve got a government food assistance card so no more hungry nights :)

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this, I went through a really similar situation a few years ago when I escaped my abusive caretaker’s house. Obviously I wasn’t there and I don’t know your full story, but I promise you didn’t deserve to live in a toxic environment and I know it’s hard to believe when your struggling financially but you are doing amazing things because you’ve put yourself first and you’ve escaped a toxic situation even though it would have been easier to stay, and you are doing your absolute best to take care of yourself and making use of the resources you can. You did all that by yourself and that is amazing! I hope you are proud of yourself for that at the least and I’m proud of you to you did a very hard thing!

@#Lexiriri Thank you so much :)) my family is trying to get me to come home because they’re “ worried about me” but when I was at my worst in a mental hospital they laughed at me. I think maybe knowing that I’m being laughing at behind my back rather than to my face hurts more I’m not sure why.

@FWann~ I know how you feel, I went into a mental hospital last year and you really learn who’s actually there for you and cares about you when that happens. I also went through the family shit talk when I moved out, my caretaker kept saying I would be a failure and end up on the streets and it was hard to deal with. One thing that my therapist told me that helped was that the only reason they are saying it behind your back is because they aren’t brave enough to say it to your face and give up control of the narrative, and the people who take their word at face value and don’t even want to hear your side of the story maybe are people you don’t want in your life anyway. I know it doesn’t make it any less painful to experience, but it helped me a little knowing it was more so a reflection of them and their short comings rather than my own

@#Lexiriri Jesus your caretaker sounds so cruel :(( and yeah I guess it does make sense that they’re scared to confront me about it. They mostly think I was faking my attempt for attention so during my time at the mental hospital was just a comedy show to them :/

@FWann~ I’m sorry no one was taking your mental health seriously when you obviously were struggling so much at the time, no one ends up in a mental health hospital for attention or shits and giggles. I obviously can’t speak for the ones you’ve been cared for by, but I know the ones I went to all had a really thorough admission process because they wanted to make sure the people who needed help most were being helped. And yeah my caretaker was very mentally ill and needs serious help, but she has decided that everyone else is the problem not her. I don’t have the time or energy to make her take responsibility for her actions and I honestly don’t even care if she does, I know what happened if she chooses to live in denial she can
