Zoomed in on art

I saw on Twitter someone was calling a character beautiful and people were pointing out they're 16 (At which point they said they didn't know who the character was and apologised) and unfortunately a lot of people defending it because "They're fictional" the art itself was completely innocuous, it was the game awards nominees or something but like the characters on the red carpet and it was posted by an official game studio and before I was reporting people defending the original poster by saying awful things (They weren't one of them, they genuinely didn't realise and was apologetic), I zoomed in on the image to see if I could recognise the character but I couldn't and my OCD convinced me it was for more sinister reasons and I had a groinal, even now my OCD is giving me intrusive thoughts and images sexualising the character and I really hate them

hi, i had an extremely similar experience once when i was younger, far before i knew what ocd was. i zoomed in on a photo of my friend and convinced myself it was for evil and sexual intentions when it absolutely wasn’t. and i know this doesn’t necessarily fix the problem, but just remember that you know who you are and your thoughts, (intrusive thoughts, because they ARE intrusive thoughts) aren’t you and don’t define you. you didn’t zoom in on that photo for any ulterior reason, and remember that deep down, you KNOW that, despite what your OCD is telling you.

I'm also worried the thoughts aren't intrusive because I thought of an example of an intrusive thought I had I think to test my reaction and my OCD switches between vague intrusive thoughts and "obvious" ones and when it does it's a massive curveball everytime because it feels real and I get so distressed. I feel like I can only tell if a thought is intrusive when I'm doing compulsions which I know is stupid but still. EDIT: It was like 13 people I reported defending that stuff as well and I blocked more probably (For being weird but not reportable)

Yeah I am trying to cut back but it's unfortunately how I share fundraisers and keep up to date on news and stuff

@Anonymous Try and set timers and restrictions for how you use it. If it's just for fundraisers, try to make it so you go in and out of the app quick for posts about that. As for news, I think you could find that same news elsewhere.

@BigGyro09 Unfortunately not, all the mainstream news sites are very biased towards stuff coming out of Gaza but I think just sticking to my home page and avoiding checking people's following would help

@Anonymous That's definitely a good start. As long as you know what to avoid. And if you catch yourself in those unhelpful places anyway, tell yourself you aren't going to give into compulsions in the long run.

@BigGyro09 I've already failed at this and reported something truly abhorrent I saw during a checking compulsion (Obviously that ended it) I feel like such a failure and like I'll never be able to resist this compulsion no matter how detrimental it is to me

@Anonymous It's okay to slip up on this. It takes practice. Don't be hard on yourself. Just try and learn from this and tell yourself you won't give into the compulsive.
