Which other antipsychotics can be used as sedatives?

Since I started taking Prozac 9 weeks ago, I started having bouts of insomnia. My psychiatrist prescribed me a very low dosage of Chlorpromazine (25mg). I looked for it online and apparently, even 400 mg per day is considered to be a low dosage. However, I also found out that this is a jurassic and dangerous drug - the first antipsychotic ever - and I don't know how to tell my doctor. It does help a lot, and, at least so far, I havent had any side effects other than sleepiness in the morning. I must remember it is not being used as an augmentation strategy, but solely as a sleep aid. It is still used in some countries to help pre-surgery anxiety. PS: I forgot to mention I struggle with sleep anxiety, and lately, it has become an obsession. I'm basically constantly afraid I wont get to sleep at night.

I've struggled with bouts of insomnia for years, sometimes only sleeping for a few hours a night for weeks. I've tried a lot of OTC aids, never prescription (so scared of possible addiction). Currently I've had a lot of success with "flare ups" with Benedryl and lavender mint tea before bed. The only thing is - and maybe it'd just me - I have to use the benadryl sparingly or it gives me depression that can last 2-3 days. So I only have one tab and I'll wait two nights before using it again. But it's worth a shot? Super harmless to try, even any negative side effects are very short lasting.

Can Napping Be a Compulsion?

At times, my intrusive thoughts get so intense that all I can do is lay frozen in my bed and hope I fall asleep, and usually I do even if I'm not tired. My brain just wears me out and I wanna escape through sleep. (Sadly it doesn't work all the time)

Medication

Hey friends, I hope you all are well. I just wanted to check in and ask people's experiences about being on medication. I have had OCD pretty much my whole life, just got recently diagnosed 4 months ago and my therapist recommended that I get on meds for it so I have a psychiatrist appointment set up. I'm a little apprehensive about getting on them, but I've realized that I do have some sort of chemical imbalance in my brain that plays a part in my OCD and anxiety. I would love to hear anyones experiences or words of encouragement. Thank you, I hope you all are well.

Medication for OCD?

Medication for OCD? Hello all, 19 male here, this seems like a cool community that isn’t nearly as triggering as reddit. I have pretty severe bouts of existential thinking or fear of going crazy ( psychosis ) after some pretty heavy mushroom trips a few years ago, I know logically I should be fine but I do know what it’s like to lose it and it’s scary. Currently I deal with relationship focused OCD, it’s all day from before I even open my eyes. I want things to work out with my girlfriend badly. Also I can come close to a panic attack sometimes which perpetuates everything. Anyway, I mention the fear of going crazy because the way my anxiety/derealization makes me feel is that I’m not mentally stable cause I feel out of it or unreal. I saw that a lot of anxiety and depression medication can cause psychosis and I feel like I could use some help in getting ahead of my OCD because the compulsions are had not to give into when I’m in such distress/not knowing. Plus overall I just feel like I have no idea how I feel about close to anything. Anyone relate about that ?
