Holy cow you guys, this isn't my thread, but you helped me realize I've had intrusive thoughts with changing themes since childhood. Like when I was around 10 my thing was that I would swear and insult god while I was praying at night and I just wanted it to stop. But that's the tamest theme I can remember. ? I can't believe my parents never helped me even when I was visibly distressed on a daily basis. Thank you everyone for being so honest and open on these forums.

^^^ smallbird is right! basically anything can be an obsession, and a lot of times people experience obsessions across categories (like for example, i get obsessions about pocd, harm ocd, real event ocd sometimes, relationship ocd, “just right” ocd, and more that don’t even fit nicely into categories)

That’s not weird at all! You’re in an OCD forum, after all — TONS of us have had this. The thing about the OCD brain is that it makes you think about the exact thing you would never want to think about. Why? Well, they say that those with OCD actually score higher on conscientiousness in personality tests. This makes sense: we’re more aware and attuned to what is appropriate or good and want to do really well at that. The very fact that we’re so aware of this is what makes our brains go “so what if I made you think THIS.” This has nothing to do with who you are as a person or your character or goodness. You were born with a brain that’s especially good at testing itself, creating problems, and analyzing them to death. Welcome to OCD. You are NOT alone.

Well my theme is very uncommon. I suffer from real event OCD and nobody talks about that theme so I can feel lonely :( You should know that pretty much anything can become obsession, so it doesn't matter if your thoughts aren't very specific. If they give you anxiety and feeling of urgency that's OCD.

Tell us more about some of your thoughts. I’m sure more people will relate than you think. A lot of people don’t speak up until they see someone else say it first.

For example while I’m talking to someone a word from him will make me think in an sexual way and imagine my mother or father or my grandmother in this situation..and if i see my grandmother she’s 100 years old i think of her in a sexually way and!!! Even my bestfriends he’s gone. I think of him this way!! And if i see anything that remembers me of him i think this way

yes! ive had intrusive thoughts about my parents, my sibling, babies, toddlers i see at my work, my pets, my friends, my coworkers, my therapist, you name it. ive even had ocd dreams about it! it’s a special subcategory of forbidden thoughts ocd that has to do with taboo sexual situations. since these thoughts are so distressing, ocd obv loves them and tries to convince you you like them. what you’ve got going on here is definitely just ocd trying to upset you, but remember—thoughts and feelings aren’t necessarily true, and don’t necessarily reflect what we want

that’s the ocd! i get the same things—like i get an intrusive thought about my dad, and then since ive gotten it a time before it means i must like it/be responsible for it, even though I know im not and know i don’t like it. it’s all ocd working overtime to make you feel guilty for what is, at its heart, not an all too uncommon thought

you’re not crazy, you’re not responsible, and your concern shows you don’t like it. ocd’s telling you a lot of lies

Do you get different types of intrusive thoughts?

I have real event ocd. Sometimes it’s a specific thing from the past but really it could be anything I think of from the past.

OH YEAH I GET THAT TOO! i do agree that it isn’t talked about nearly as much, but i get intrusive thoughts about incest and my friends very very frequently and it can be triggered just by a particular word or a particular situation. you’re absolutely not alone in this, a lot of folks have that set of obsessions!!! you’re not crazy!

does anyone else have an intense fear of developing schizophrenia or psychosis. This has been a really heavy theme for me as well. I’m constantly checking to see if I have symptoms or if I’m gonna go crazy or develop these. it’s so scary.

i’m a new user on this app, I downloaded it just cause I was curious, I don’t really know if I have OCD. Because in school all I learned about OCD is things being out of place and having it to be perfect almost like perfectionism, but I’ve just recently realized there’s a whole kind of different types of OCD, some things I struggle with daily is a fear of bad things happening or almost like an impending doom of when is it gonna happen? I’m always in my head thinking feels like I’m having multiple conversations at once. Sometimes it doesn’t even feel like I’m having a conversation with myself. I have horrendous anxiety about everything and anything talking to people being around people. It just feels like it consumes my everyday life and I don’t know what to do. I can’t clearly remember anything from my childhood and some things I feel like I may be imagining I just don’t really feel like a person. I’m always thinking the worst in my relationship over analyzing and stressing out thinking of scenarios or thinking, my boyfriend‘s cheating on me. It almost all feels out of my control.

Paranoia… I need to know because I’m feeling very alone in this. I’ve never met someone with the level of paranoia that I have. I can logically explain things to myself and somehow my paranoia convinces me of another story. I’m constantly thinking exaggerated thoughts that there are so many scary possibilities. Am I alone in this or what? If so any suggestions on how to calm these thoughts
