Cannabis is an herbal medicine that can be used recreationally or medicinally. It has many MANY benefits. Yes you can use it as a crutch however If you use it for mental health purposes see cannbis as a tool in your belt. Not a solution (as modernfemale, I believe, was saying).

I found that it helped!! I would try it with people, but it helped me analyze why I might be panicking over something and stop it. Almost out of body

I have the same experience as sarahcarolyn. I’m a legal budentender and study cannabis recreationally and for my job. I would suggest starting with a hunting or indica hybrid. If you’re a newer user some people suggest lower thc with maybe some cbd in it (two main cannabinoids in cannabis). So 13-18% or 18-23% THC might be good. You may not get high the first or even second time you smoke, that’s normal. However don’t drink if you do try it and then don’t drive after you smoke. (So maybe try it in a safe place in the afternoon/evening). Favorite strains that help my anxiety: -Purple Punch -Peanut Butter Breath -Purple Hindu Kush -Lemon Kush (for when you need a pick me up)

Just personally, weed has neither improved or worsened my symptoms. It’s always been really fun though haha

I abused cannabis for 2 years because it felt like the only thing that helped me be numb to the suffering of OCD and bipolar disorder. I also made me extremely manic, another great feeling. I shopped, drove fast, ate, and had too much sex with strangers during these manic and stoned sessions. It was an amazing and fun time when I look back, but then I am reminded of the come down, the next morning. My credit card debt piled up and I’d receive packages I didn’t remember ordering. I could have killed someone and myself driving impaired. I gained weight that has thankfully been lost. I contracted STIs and developed unhealthy relationships that have left me unable to trust men. I guess what I’m saying is that yes, cannabis is a fun and even therapeutic drug for many, but for me- I understand and see now how it just made my mental illness so much worse. Also, it’s expensive!

For me, marijuana has always made my OCD worse because I struggled to rationalize my thoughts more when I was high, no matter the strain. I’d love to get back to smoking again but unfortunately it’s a habit I’ve recently quit in order to better my symptoms.

Yes, I suppose that’s what I was saying. I was taking meds, seeing a therapist irregularly, and seeing a psychiatrist WHILE smoking 7-10 bowls of medical cannabis AND taking a few dab hits MOST nights. It started out as a once or twice every other week sort of thing, but I really did like the mania, as most bipolar folks will tell you. There were also some social aspects to my addiction. I guess what I mean is that it’s important to remember that cannabis affects every mind and body differently and you don’t really know until you try. There’s a reason it’s a schedule 1 drug, there is so much scientists and researchers don’t know about it. I have a few friends that use it in conjunction to their prescribed meds as a treatment for depression. They’ve found what works for them and that’s awesome. I hope you do, too. Just please, don’t drive stoned. I feel like that should be a basic social mores at this point.

Has anyone been prescribed Escitalopram for their OCD? And if so what was your experience like. I just got into my 2nd week of it and got bumped up to 20mg. Today has been weird because my anxiety is gone which has been for a bit but the thoughts seem stronger today especially the Harm related ones. Almost like commands now. Can anyone relate?

I try and read/post on this message board at least every now and then as a way to feel connected to people in the OCD community, and to offer whatever kind of advice my experience has taught me, because I don’t think any human should have to struggle with OCD. I wanted to share that since starting clomipramine, my symptoms have become a lot less severe. I was hesitant to try this medication even though my dr has suggested it because it’s an older antidepressant, so it comes with more side effects. For me, that’s been issues urinating and when I first started a really odd feeling when I yawned (like, the heck?). And then a specific spinal reflex that is not appropriate to mention was physically impossible for about a month, but I’ve regained some ability there…. But the side effects for me are 100% worth it given how much it’s helped me. I can walk away from obsessive thoughts / behaviors without going nuts or having to perform some other ritual just to walk away lol. I can put thoughts out of my mind more easily, let them go, and move on. It’s like a switch. I still struggle, but I still don’t think the medicine is fully effective just yet, and I just have a lot more hope for the potential of a normal life now. Or like, a functional one at the least. So if you’re currently out of luck and haven’t tried this medicine yet, I recommend giving it a shot. I take 75mg right now and think I may need to increase some, but even now it’s helping so much. Don’t let dosage increases scare you, the side effects will taper back down… I hope this helps someone.

I am honestly desperate to try anything, I tried prozac and it works but it makes me gain weight which makes my body image issues even worse, so I need help. Has anyone tried it?
