Has anyone found a medication for them that has worked. I’m on my second day of Luvox, but my anxiety and depression from intrusive thoughts and ruminating are so through the roof, that I feel like I’m going out of my mind. I’m contemplating trying Valium as need be until my ssri kicks in, but I’m afraid of feeling the need to take it too much and become addicted. Advice?
SSRIs take a while to build up in your system. I’m on Luvox as well, and it took a bit for it to build up in my body. It has done wonders for my OCD! Stay strong. ♥️
I took benzos and it caused memory loss. They also stopped Working eventually and I was taking 2-4mg a day of Xanax. Now I’m on 100mg of Zoloft and it’s working. It took a month to start kicking in though. The anxiety attacks were horrible before the Zoloft kicked in.
I don't know anything about Luvox. Lexapro seems to help me somewhat with OCD, it's also an SSRI. But in general two days is a very short amount of time on a medication, they take time to build up to a therapeutic dose. You can talk to your psychiatrist about an anti-anxiety if you are doing really poorly and need one, I have needed one before. But as you mention be careful around them, especially if you have an addictive personality. Ativan seems to be the least addictive benzo from my understanding... Xanax and others more addictive.
I just started a ssri 11 days ago as well and my OCD symptoms definitely became worse when I did. It feels like I've regressed a lot in those 11 days but I keep being told to stick with it. So let's get through this together friend! If it worked for others it may work for us!
Luvox, like any SSRI can take up to a MONTH to kick in. With some medications it'll get worse before it gets better. I say give it a few weeks, maybe around 7 and see where it gets you and if it's still not helping, speak with a psychiatrist or your doctor about an adjustment.
Thnx everyone for all the advice and encouragement. I should have mentioned I’ve been on Lexipro twice before. Once as a teen (worked amazingly) and another a couple years ago (I guess it worked a little?). I got off it the second time because I wanted to try the natural route which also includes a lot of trial and error. I can’t bare waiting through anymore trials so here I am back with ssris trying Luvox for the first time (I’ve heard great reviews from ocd suffers on Reddit). I’ve recently discovered I have the mthfr gene mutation which effects the creation of neurotransmitters. An anti inflammatory diet and taking active form b12 vitamins and mythelfolate should help with that. I’m hoping now that I’ll be producing more neurotransmitters along with the SSRI keeping serotonin around long enough for a connection that ill have more success this time around. As for anxiety meds, I just need something to keep my head above water. Currently taking hydroxyzine which doesn’t seem to be working for me anymore. I’ll have to check out Ativan (thnx @jb1020 ) . I’ll be seeing a psychiatrist for the first time in October when my insurance kicks in, so hopefully i can get things sorted. Anyways thnx for listening!
This topic could be a great exposure. Side effects of ssris making ocd symptoms worse. Could be a good script there. Especially if it feels like an obsession. But yes as everyone said ssris 1- take a while to kick in and 2- are trial and error. Also- I read on the IOCDF website that you can get liquid forms of SSRIs and start at insanely looooow doses to avoid side effects. Like 1mg.
Has medication helped anyone with severe intrusive thoughts. I am considering starting and wanted to know what worked best for people.
I’ve been on Paxil for a year never had anxiety or my one intrusive thought that made me so anxious and stuck , after seeing the Lindsey case I’ve been horrible my doctors upped my Paxil to 40mg still having my one intrusive thought stuck !! Anyone have any ocd medication that really helped them thinking of switching !
Anyone tried Fluvoxamine for their OCD??
