What are your experiences with meds? Would you recommend them? Are some of the OCD meds meds that are usually prescribed for depressed patients too? If so, do they have any side effects or negative effects overall? Like make you tired or make you stop feeling things like I've heard some people say Would you say meds need to be taken only if the situation is very bad and super out of control?
Hi. There is a lot of questions here and I’m going to do my best to answer them without causing you to fall into a trap with your ocd. Meditation is a great option for those who believe that need it. You can talk to a doctor and see what’s the best option for you. There is now genetic testing to see what medication is great for your body. Don’t forget you need to also do OCD therapy. Because you may not get what you’re expecting or you may. But you need to be prepared. Now if you don’t want to do that than just do the therapy of ERP which is said by studies to be the best. I know it’s hard but everyone’s experience with medication is different and you can’t depend on one person’s response to give you false hope. You need to figure what’s best for you and what worse. I can share that I had OCD for years and didn’t know. It was terrible. It wasn’t until I had my first son where I finally got help. All of these questions and everything you are feeling believe me many of us have been there. Give your self some grace. You deserve it.

@Anonymous Nope. I’m actually a teacher. Just been through this for a long time. Didn’t have the chance to give myself the same grace years ago. We all deserve it! 🤍
@someone.71x My faith! It got me through the worse times in my life. I’m thankful to say I have a little family of my own and it’s my why. I keep fighting for them. It gets better I promise.

@someone.71x I do also want to mention ERP is hard. I’m currently doing it. But it’s the one I’ve seen the most of my transformation. Have you tried it?
@dee.dee.m No, I haven't done any therapy for it yet. I tried doing things on my own, like the 4 step method, but it hasn't really been helpful because I'm not consistent with it and I can't apply it to my specific problems. I was thinking maybe starting meds and/or therapy once I go to college because that will be a stressful environment and it'll get much worse. I don't think I'm ready for CBT because it's hard for me to explain my problems but I'll have to do it if I want to get better
(25f) Before I was diagnosed with OCD I tried Lexapro (wasn’t bad but wasn’t great) and Citalopram (partially think it was a part of what caused me to develop severe anxiety that ignited my once not so active OCD.) After diagnosis tried Effexor and didn’t see an improvement. Was on Adderall for a good amount of my life and mentally did good on it, stopped about 2 years ago because the physical side effects started to become more noticeable. Maybe I go back on Adderall? Maybe SSRI’s and I aren’t a great fit? Anyone taking other medications that helped?
I understand that everyone is different but lately I have been debating on medication just because of past experiences but does anyone have any good experiences with medication that has helped them with their OCD as well as therapy or treatment? As of now I’m dealing with it by myself but it feels like it may be getting worse
As my current mental health has definitely reached a new low, I will probably soon start with medication. However, since I am actually somewhat afraid of the typical side effects of antidepressants and mood-stabilizers, I wanted to ask anyone who is or has been taking medication for OCD and or depression (and mood-swings). I recently got also diagnosed with depression (I’ll be further tested for burnout) and I also suffer from pretty intense mood swings and anxiety, both really draining the last bit of energy that I currently have. You can honestly be as specific and descriptive as you want since I don’t know any people in my personal life that take any medication for their mental health and I’m genuinely curious about side effects, how long the different meds take to kick in, etc. The only meds I’m familiar with are beta blockers, specifically bisoprolol but I want to switch to propranolol.
