Is pure OCD a real condition if it's not in the DSM-5, and do I have OCD?

I was Reading about pure ocd and It says that it Is not included in the dsm-5 and that the obsessive compulsive disorder in the dsm-5 has ALWAYS physical compulsions/actions. So what if this doesnt exist and I don't have ocd? I don't get It. I don't do ripetitive actions at all. I Just try to research things every second, ask for reassurance, try to solve my thoughts for hours, think about the past.

Hello....your last comment about " ...try to research things every second try to solve my thoughts for hours" can be classified as repetitive actions. You most probably don't just do these actions for just hours but also days after days after days. You doubting whether you have ocd or not is part of the ocd cycle....

Great explanation from Anonymous. If you’re constantly doing those things to relieve your distress for hours at a time, then that’s OCD. Also, were you reading about it from a credible source? I wouldn’t take that at face value bc anyone can say anything but that doesn’t mean it’s a fact.

I was reading about It on Wikipedia, I don't have many info on ocd cause I can't afford therapy, I was diagnosed years ago but it's like I don't really trust my ex therapist so I was doubting a lot and I tried to search about It and It just got worse😭

@Marharet My advice is to stay away from researching about OCD. That is exactly what fuels your obsessions and makes you spiral. If you’ve been diagnosed by a professional, then you have OCD. It’s very normal to doubt your diagnosis—it’s pretty much a universal experience among us all lol, so I understand where you’re coming from. As for therapy, do you have private insurance? It can be really hard to afford the cost of treatment. I suggest you check out Nathan Peterson’s course for OCD; it’s a bit pricey but it’s a one time fee. @blazed I live in Italy, here ocd is not even very well known so the therapists paid by the public health system aren't helpful at all...the private ones are like 150 euros per week and it's just too much😔

@Marharet I’m sorry it’s difficult right now :( i understand. There’s a lot of resources you can use in the meantime like workbooks for OCD - they provide great insight and strategies to help manage your symptoms. I hope you find some relief from this 🩷

what are some of your mental compulsions? I have relationship OCD but I can’t think of many compulsions I have, so does that mean I have pure O?

does anyone have any tips for figuring out what is and is not a compulsion? my ocd is currently trying to convince me i don’t have ocd because mine is mostly pure. also on that note, does repetitive googling classify as pure or physical?

Honestly I’m just confused af

So I have intrusive thoughts that drive me nuts. BUT. I don’t know if I have compulsions! I don’t have to touch things a certain amount of times. I don’t do a ritual really. I just inside my head freak out. Is this OCD? I read about OCD, and it’s all about doing repetitive things but all of mine is inside my head. It’s making me believe I have something else wrong with me and it’s scary as hell! It’s convincing me I am a narcissist or sociopath but what’s weird is I deeply care about people in real life and I’m actually a people pleaser? I really just have a hard time understanding why I have dark intrusive thoughts based on my personality and how I interact with others. It feels like hell and since I’m not doing rituals or visible compulsions, my OCD (if I have it) is now convincing me “what if” I don’t have OCD. I do ruminate and I’m obsess over the thoughts and want to know “why”. Is that in itself a compulsion? The actual rumination? I guess this type of OCD is never talked about in movies/books so it makes me feel ALL ALONE.
