Has anyone have had any experience with prozac (fluoxotine)? I have to take it and I'm very much afraid of the side effects like suicidal thoughts, more anxiety, but over that I have MAAJOR anxiety about having serotonin syndrome..
You should not ask other people for advice on medication because everyone responds differently. I have taken prozac and it was fine, no side effects. I currently take zoloft because it works better than prozac for me. Also, serotonin syndrome is EXTREMELY rare and it happens when you get too much of it, like an overdose, usually by taking several SSRIs at once, but its common to take 2 SSRIs together and be fine. More anxiety in the first 2 weeks is common but its nothing compared to the wonderful relief you get when the medication kicks in. Listen to your doctor and ONLY your doctor. DO NOT look up side effects or peoples horror stories. The reason there seems to be more bad than good stories is because people get online to tell their horror stories but the vast majority of people who have good experiences DO NOT return to the computer to talk about them, they are too busy out living a happy life. STAY-OFF-REDDIT! stay off google, give the meds a chance.

@TexasOCD41 Hi! Thank you for your insights 💜😭. I’ve been on Prozac for 6 days after 3 days I went from 10 mg to 20 mg. Side effects are making me want to stop taking it. Need to know if you experienced negative side effects in the trial period… thank you so much!!!!
@Anonymous - Honestly my first month was hell lol. i got like a week of calm followed by 4 weeks of pure hell, i even went to the ER in a nervous breakdown but my situation was unique. i went on reddit looking for stories of people giving positive experience ( yea i know, reddit was NOT the place for that) and found a horror story ( with zero evidence that indicated it had anything to do with the zoloft) but that didn't matter, in my SUPER hyper OCD mind i ended up manifesting the things i read about. i quit it for a week before realizing i really needed to give it the full 3 months adjustment period. it was ROUGH but i worked with an NOCD therapist and my doctor kept pushing me to wait it out and it was the BEST thing iv ever done. I'm now fully adjusted and VERY happy with no side effects to speak of. give it time, TRY your best NOT to think about it, a LOT of things can be manifested by negative thinking. Try to encourage yourself, be realistic, when you have down times just say" yea, well, this is to be expected, nothing out of the ordinary, it means it working, i just need to give it time and do work where i can to help it work" i changed my diet to whole foods, meats, fruits, i made myself go t obed WAY earlier than normal, took walks on pretty days, warm baths, happy tv shows, these all helped lessen the icky feelings and then eventually i just woke up and felt good and forgot about the icky stuff. hang in there. increasing doses will ramp up the icky feelings too so if you need to drop back to 10mg and give your body time to get used to that, that's ok. it took me 4 weeks between dose increases.
My personal experience with Serotonin / Paxil had to find the right dose. For me it's 20mg so work with your Doctor carefully. Good luck fellow OCD'er
Prozac was the first medication I was prescribed. Personally Prozac made me extremely anxious.

Hey! I just started Prozac and I’m on day 4 or 5 and I’m feeling super anxious and having mini panic attacks, is this normal? I know my psychiatrist said anxiety will raise for the first two weeks but I just wanna know if this happened to anyone else. I’m also super tired Thanks 😊
I was diagnosed with OCD and I started Prozac 10 days ago. I have struggled with intrusive taboo sexual thoughts for 12+ years (I’m 24) but now I feel like it’s turning into feelings. I’ve never done anything to anyone or nor do I wish to ever. I am just scared of my own brain if this is something I actually want. My psychiatrist said I should feel better/start getting clarity after 2 weeks. But I keep feeling worse and worse. Anyone else has experience with Prozac and how it went for them?
I am having a really hard time with ocd and anxious thoughts and feeling extremely uneasy. I'm home alone today so it's really easy for me to get stuck in my thoughts. I'm on day 4 of prozac. I felt like yesterday I had a period of time of about 30 minutes where I felt really focused and like the anxiety lifted completely. But then an obsession started and it brought me right back down. Hopefully I feel relief again today. I'm going to go get some house work done to take my mind off of things. Does anyone have any first hand experiences with prozac? How long until you felt any relief? Any really bad side effects? Any unforseen pluses? Much appreciated.
