Sertraline
Hello, does anyone know how long it takes for sertraline to work? I've just started my treatment 1 hour ago (I know I'm very impatient) but I just wanted to know, and does sertraline 25mg work? I'm afraid it won't work.

Hi!! I’m not on the medication but I do know it’s an SSRI. The dosage I think you’re on is the lowest and it usually increases with 25mg increments once the medication gets settled more into your daily regiment. Give it a week or two for it to really start to cycle. SSRIs are a slow start but when it’s the right medication you will begin to feel better soon. Impatience I totally get tho I started Venlafaxine a week ago and even tho I’m on the lowest dose I keep going “when will it work” a bunch
@anonymous_anteater Okayy thank you for your answer!!!
It is not going to take your thought process or anything away. Just dulls it.
took me about a month and a half before it really started to help but i felt VERY MINOR improvement after 1 week and needed my dose uppsed to 50mg and then after another week we upped it to 75mg where i stayed.
@TexasOCD41 Did you take the medicine in capsule or tablet form? Because I was supposed to take it in tablet form but pharmacies don't make tablets so I had to take it in capsule form but I'm afraid that the treatment won't work.
@Yannina Tablets. It doesn’t matter how you take it. They wouldn’t make it in capsule form if it weren’t just as effective. Give it time, you literally just took it a few hours ago lol
Hi- nurse here! SSRIs generally take longer to start working than some other meds- it’s usually a few weeks to a month to see changes. If the 25 mg isn’t doing enough for you you can always contact your psychiatrist to increase the dose after a month or two on 25 mg - they usually start people at lower doses so your body has time to get used to the medication before raising the dose. Sertraline has been shown to be effective in a lot of people with OCD but everyone is different so it may not work as well for some people. It took me a while to figure out what medication worked best for me- just communicate with your psychiatrist throughout your journey about how you’re feeling!! Sorry for the long response but I hope it at least helped a little bit! The waiting game when you first start meds is hard and I have been there and understand the impatience. Good luck on your journey! 🤍
@ally238 thank you very much for your reply 🤍.i have 1 question to ask you, in fact i was supposed to have sertraline in tablet form but none of the pharmacies carried it so i had to take capsules do you think the treatment will still work with capsules?
@Yannina yes!! it’s still sertraline just in a different form
I used to get very irritable and have severe ocd, while I have only been on Prozac 3 weeks at only 10mg then recently 20mg. I have noticed that although my intrusive thoughts are still there, it’s more manageable like 30% more manageable and I’m hoping with time and if needed an increase of my dosage it could go to 50-90% more manageable. Anyone experience with ssri please share your experience dosage, name, how long it ok to kick in and how is your ocd now on the meds? Thank you
I am honestly desperate to try anything, I tried prozac and it works but it makes me gain weight which makes my body image issues even worse, so I need help. Has anyone tried it?
My mind keeps telling me “something is wrong with you. the weird feeling you are feeling or the weird tingling you are feeling or there is a weird mark on your body. Those are actually a severe symptom and by ignoring it you could die!” Or especially the constant, “go to the emergency room because this impending doom you are feeling, yeah that’s because your gonna die shortly” It doesn’t help whenever people say “well if something was wrong your body would tell you” because my mind keeps telling me that what I’m feeling is proof something is wrong and I need to get it checked out. That I actually am severely sick and that I need to get it checked out as soon as possible, that if I get one more test than I’ll be okay because it will prove nothing is wrong. How do I tell my mind that it’s just anxiety whenever my mind keeps telling me “well if you keep saying that you could be ignoring something more serious.” Or “the doctors are just brushing you off..something is wrong with you” It’s hard to live with my thoughts whenever they are constantly coming up with ways to challenge me and challenge logic. New reasons on why I need to get this checked out because “I’m just being ignored” or “no one is listening to me so I’ll just end up dying” My symptoms range from weak and shaking legs and body to dizzy and unbalanced and dissociated. Recently I’ve been getting this tingling feeling inside my head and on the back of my neck. And my temples have pressure on them. My body keeps coming up with new symptoms I need to worry about, whenever most of them are probably caused by severe and constant anxiety. So severe I can’t even leave the house because I constantly worry about whether this is severe and something will happen if I leave the house. I need immediate ways to start fixing this because it’s especially horrible whenever my period comes around and my anxiety/depression is already higher than usual. I’ve even started considering taking medication (Zoloft, 25mg) which is another trigger for me, I worry about the symptoms I might get from taking it. That’s how you know it’s gotten pretty bad whenever I’ve come to taking something that I’ve been actively avoiding. What are your thoughts? Do I take the medication? What are ways I can deal with my symptoms that seem so severe in the moment but pass by once I’m not anxious? What are ways my thoughts can ease and I stop taking every symptom as something serious, because at the end of the day my anxiety is most likely the reason I have these horrible symptoms. I’ve always been extremely healthy and everytime I go to the doctors they express how healthy I am with all the tests I’ve had.
