Q&A!
Little Q&A since I see a lot of people on here asking questions! Note: I won’t provide reassurance since this just feeds OCD and keeps you in the loop!

I just want to say congratulations on this huge milestone and thank you for helping others in the community!! 🙂
@Deborah Ward Thank u sm Deborah! Ofc this community & NOCD helped me so much in my darkest times I wanna return the favor 💕💕💕
What are some ERP tactics that have been especially helpful for you?
@garlicgorl13 Scripting has been the most helpful way I do exposures. Anytime I get triggered I do a script leaning all the way in several times till the anxiety subsides on its own and it’s helped tremendously
@httpet what script do you tell yourself?
@httpet Thanks so much for the reply :)
@England101! It depends on what thought is triggered me, usually I’ll just lean into whatever I’m scared of happening and write a script about that as if it has already happened.
@garlicgorl13 No problem!
How does one become an OCD conqueror?
@3xDisorders Receive therapy from one of the therapist here on NOCD , then eventually the therapist will deem you ready to start going longer without sessions and that’s how you get it
What was your biggest “light bulb” moment in therapy?
@Crook All my thoughts are just repackaged to look different but the core fear is the same.
What is your number one advice for conquering harm ocd?
@England101! Be willing to sit with discomfort and even though the anxiety feels so pressing do not give into compulsions. Also remember to be kind to yourself, ocd is not to be taken lightly and it has stripped us from a lot no need to feed it anymore.
@httpet thank you. i’m really struggling with some of the harm ocd thoughts as they fixate on my family - which i love the most and not pushing those thoughts away is soooooo hard
@England101! Hey! I’m not the original poster but I have harm OCD as well. It’s horrible. I have a lot of themes but this is the core of them. Some days are harder than others. My advice is do not isolate yourself. There are days where I so badly want to isolate myself as to not trigger these thoughts around my family but that just makes it worse. The first RPM my therapist taught me was “maybe it will happen, maybe it won’t. I don’t need to figure this out right now.”
@England101! I know! Are you in therapy by any chance? NOCD helped me tremendously at the beginning at gave me the tools I need to combat this on my own
@Anonymous Great advice!
@httpet I have been for the past 3 months i’m just still struggling and hating myself a lot for it and id say im 50% there but still need to learn to accept that i have it and not push it away or want it to go away :/
@Anonymous yea that last part i was taught too! i just think i struggle with truly accepting it and allowing the thoughts bc i hate them so much and want them gone that im pushing them away still :/
@England101! Oh I totally relate. The first two sessions with my therapist was just me sobbing (more like hyperventilating) about how horrible it was to have the thoughts. I really never thought I’d be where I am. Sometimes I’m so non reactive to the thoughts I get worried that I’m not feeling that adrenaline or cortisol rush but I know being worried about not reacting is normal. OCD gets hungry. It will disguise itself in many ways.
@England101! Don’t worry that’s completely normal. I didn’t feel like I was getting any better until almost a year in therapy. It gets better
@httpet thank you so much, i really have hope and think there can be a light at the end of the tunnel 🥹
@Anonymous Yea 100% i get what u mean. Like oh because I don’t care about the thought and i’m not reacting maybe there’s something wrong with me…😅 I get it !! It really does just sneak attack you in so many ways 😭😭 I’m really hoping to make some more progress soon. I am visiting family for Easter and a part of me feels nervous to be around them and I think that’s what i’m struggling with the most currently ://
@England101! There is!
