I’ve known my wife for 35 years and this still happens to me. I’ll think, “Did I make her up?” I didn’t know it was OCD until today. Showed her and we had a good laugh. Sometimes you gotta laugh about it.
I feel so seen. In another circumstance, I play music for a living and somehow my brain goes “I actually am just tone deaf and no one has the heart to tell me.” 💀😂

1. Don’t see my wife for 2 minutes thinking that I made up that my wife is there 2. Start thinking that wandered to the store thinking I had driven there but I have dementia and just ended up there 3. See my wife again and am relieved (until we go to the store again)

Totally get it! Had a season for a while where I was convinced I was in some way mentally handicapped and that no one would/could tell me. If only I had known at the time to just FACE it and say “well… maybe so… maybe not… but either way let’s keep living toward our values in the best way we can”

Yep I did this with my sister for years before I knew I had ocd
I thought I was the only one! Before meds and therapy, I went on a trip and panicked that my that my home didn't exist. It made me so anxious!

My boyfriend and I joke about this thought I have frequently, like something I’m accustomed to is not based in reality. For example, I’ll say “I put my umbrella here, it’s purple and I need it and I’m worried because of its proximity to the trash it was thrown out. But what if that wasn’t actually an umbrella, I didn’t open it, so maybe it was trash shaped like an umbrella and I put it aside moronically? And what if it was an important umbrella? Maybe my grandmothers? Maybe my partners grandmothers? What if I threw it out? What if I thought to place the umbrella there, but realized it was trash and then threw it away, and never had an umbrella? But what if my partner thought it was his grandmothers umbrella and that I threw it away?“ Instead of going through all of those doubts, my partner learned to say “never had one” in this silly sweet voice that means “whatever it was or wasn’t, it doesn’t matter at all other than how it’s affecting you and I love you regardless” And it helps me a lot.
