Unfortunately with SSRIs you’re a 4-6 week timeline for its main onset. It’s possible it may have not kicked in fully yet or that you may need a dose increase. Unfortunately a lot of things with mental health don’t work quickly. Try to hang in there, things will get better
@Raven_ thank you i just wasn't sure i have never taken meds before for ocd after being scared of meds for two years i finally started them just recently
50 mg btw..
I've taken a lot of medications but not that one. I think 6 to 8 weeks. It takes awhile to build up. It's awful when you are in distress and just want to feel better. This past year I tried several different meds and waiting for them to kick in or know if it's going to work sucks. Are you in ERP therapy? Are you participating in any ocd support groups? My Dr said ERP and medication is usually needed. I heard same thing from my therapist. Wish medicine by itself worked. I'm wondering if my medication needs to be tweaked
@Kim27 hello what other meds have you tried :) i'm always curious, im not in therapy as i cannot find any and this app doesn't accept my insurance for therapy on here but ive had therapist before and they just never work for me i cant really do erp but i try to sometimes with the encouragement from my partner that's all i really have right now aside from my meds that i just started taking after being scared for two years to start them, just got way too bad.. wasn't sure what else to do and still wondering if I did the correct thing to start meds' I cannot find any support groups sadly. thank you
@Huskylover Well I've been suffering with ocd for over 30 years. I always thought I had an anxiety disorder and was diagnosed with ocd in last 6 months. I will try to remember all the meds I've been on. I was taking Prozac for several years and was doing well on that until it stopped working. Before that I took 75 mg of Effexor and 30 mg of Lexapro. That worked for awhile several years until it didn't. Last summer I went to 2 memorial services and went in to a terrible ocd spiral about fear of dying that lasted until May. I switched from my psychiatrist of 15 years because he kept trying all these meds and said that's maybe as good as it gets. Currently I take Sertraline generic for Zoloft 100mg daily and Desvenlafaxine generic for new improved Effexor 100 mg. I think that combination of medicine took away the constant fear of dying. I still struggle with ocd spirals about how to spend my time and relationships. Medication definitely helps and there is no shame in needing it. If someone has high blood pressure they take medication for it. Our brains are short circuiting in the Amygdala. Currently they don't know what gene is connected to ocd but Serotonin seems to help. There is a genetic test you can take to see if your brain makes enough Serotonin or if it makes Seratonin at all. If your brain does not make Serotonin . Serotonin meds won't help. In the 90s my Dr thought I was psychotic and put me on antipsychotic drugs and hospitalized me. So lots of improvements in services since then. Talk therapy doesn't work for ocd. For years I just took medication and didn't have therapy. I think you should be able to join support groups on here for free. I don't know if you have to have therapist on the app. If you can find a therapist who specializes in ocd and does erp that takes your insurance that can really help. I've taken lots of other meds besides that but those are the main ones. I'm glad you are getting some help and start feeling better soon. Ocd is horrible and very debilitating
