A Dark Cloud
Does anyone else struggle with the theme of being afraid of dying and death? I don’t really know if it’s my OCD or if something is legitimately wrong with me, but it’s starting to consume my thoughts. Sometimes it’s almost physically debilitating when it’s all I can think about. I guess I’m just reaching out so I don’t feel so alone in this.
you’re not alone i promise!! it sounds backwards but sometimes my fear of dying made me not want to be alive anymore. I was so terrified of dying i’d rather just get it over with so i didn’t have to feel all the stress and worry. It gets better and you will learn how to cope with it. But i promise you’re not alone.
Oh absolutely, I witnessed a family death pretty early on and ever since I've been absolutely mortified by the idea that one day it'll happen to me too. I'm not religious either so it's difficult to fund ways to "cope", but I've come to understand that many across the world view death in various ways. It's only western cultures that mourn death as intensely as we do. Other cultures focus on remembrance, celebration of the time we DO have, and some even have ideas like reincarnation if you're spiritual. All of that is to say nobody really knows what happens? Just that it does happen, and hopefully we all get the peaceful version once we're old and grey and too tired and fulfilled to want much else. I find a little comfort in that. I hope you do too.
Does anyone else ever have obsessions about death and the afterlife? This is something I’ve struggled with on and off for years but I can’t seem to make these thoughts go away because my ocd is telling me this is a real fear and there’s no counter thought to act as the compulsion for it because it’s the unknown and that really freaks me out
Really struggling with the idea of death, scares the shit out of me. My OCD has really clung to this and all I can think about is my Loved ones are going to die one day and so am I. I’m flooded with so many emotions ranging from fear to guilt. It’s gotten to the point where the thought of death is always in the back of my mind 24/7. I’ve been having nightmares about it now and will wake up in a full blown panic. Anyone deal with something like this? And any tips to move past this?
i don’t know if this falls under a specific theme or is even related to ocd. if someone could help me out i would really appreciate it ever since i was younger, i’ve had really upsetting thoughts about losing my loved ones and it would get to a point where i vividly imagine their death scenes play out in my head and it’s started to effect me during a day-to-day basis. sometimes i even imagine myself dying and the imagery shows me how my friends and family react to my passing usually when i think of something happy, my brain enters this cycle where i begin to think of some upsetting and distressing moment and i cant help but think about it for the rest of the day i’ve had a common fear of death for a really long time, but it’s gotten really bad now is this a form of some intrusive thought? please let me know what you think
