I know it’s really hard but try not to do the mental compulsion of thinking about it and trying to remember every detail. I also have mental compulsions, but it *will* dissipate if you stop the compulsions. Also might be worth trying a response prevention message

@User17annon It’s a mantra of sorts to help you avoid doing the compulsion. The basic framework is you want to 1) acknowledge how you’re feeling and then 2) state what you will not do. It helps me to write these down a few times and say it out loud as I write. So for instance in your case the response prevention mention could be “I feel shame and guilt. I will never know if I sent the text message (or, I will never know what the text message said) but I’m not going to ruminate (or try to figure it out). I’m going to tolerate the uncertainty.”

@User17annon Sitting with the feeling is the hardest part. Know that you are not alone. I am pregnant and have been dealing with my ocd theme ALL pregnancy about 7 months now, and mine is rocd related aka did I cheat. I have not fully recovered but I’m in an in between. Just know you are not alone.

@User17annon It is exhausting. This is just my outsider perspective but maybe you want to confess because you think you will feel better. Confessing could be a compulsion also

This is just a thought (and it’s something that I do) is perhaps consciously or subconsciously you are still fighting the thoughts (ex. Trying to remember every detail) and that’s why it is persisting

It’s hard to remember but OCD attacks what we care about the most. It probably feels so real and like it’s not ocd but that’s what it wants you to think. It is an insidious, sneaky disorder

I struggle with the “is this real” too. You are not alone

@User17annon You are not a horrible person- ocd is just making you feel that way. I have been there too. You are definitely not alone! I feel like I do confessing a lot but I mask it as talking about how I’m feeling today etc. I know it seems counterintuitive but try saying “I may or may not have X” or response prevention message like above and it will help you let go of the thought.

Just know you can handle this. Even when it seems insurmountable and impossible to get over. You can fight ocd
