OCD representation

Who else remembers that episode of Friends where Chandler briefly alludes to having intrusive thoughts about his mom while he’s in bed with a girl, or something. It’s certainly weird to say that on a nationally televised sitcom, but tbh that brief moment seems like such a better representation of OCD than someone who is simply tidy and actually proud of it. OCD sufferers are never proud of their thoughts & compulsions! So while it can seem troubling that Chandler would have that thought in the first place, I also thought it was really cool that the writers even threw that line in there. If not to the same scale as that, I wish more characters in shows & movies would have true OCD-like tendencies that could maybe even play into the comedy, which might even help make OCD themes seem less scary overall.

Another example I thought of is in Seinfeld where George gets a massage from a man and then is super paranoid that his “thing” moved. To someone without OCD that might seem overly obsessive (duh) but OCD sufferers TOTALLY get that struggle lol!

Social Implications of OCD

Has anyone experienced their reputation affected or misunderstood because of a societally taboo OCD theme? Others catching wind of your obsessions and misinterpreting it, assuming the worst? I’m intentionally keeping it vague because I don’t want my specific situation to get reassured, but it’s been a real tough pill to swallow knowing that people close to me (and anyone else they might talk to) think of me differently. I’m unwilling to share about my OCD because I feel pretty confident it will be taken as an excuse or denial, and feels compulsive and reassurance seeking. Let me know if anyone here has experienced anything like it, how they handled it, exposures you did.

Feeling “not ocd enough”

Does anyone struggle with feeling like their ocd issues are not ocd enough compared to other peoples ocd? Is this an ocd thought itself lol
